Here is the nutrition information for a hot dog:
Nutrition Facts

Total fat 12 g	18%
Saturated fat 4.8 g	24%
Polyunsaturated fat 1.2 g
Monounsaturated fat 6 g
Cholesterol 23 mg	7%
Sodium 369 mg	15%

My question is do competitive eaters go puke after the contest? Or did Joey Chestnut actually ingest 828 grams of fat and 25,461 grams of sodium (not counting the buns)?

Ingesting over 25 Kg of Sodium in one setting, especially in metallic form, could be... interesting.

I have no idea, but Joey Chestnut is an eating monster, that much I do know.

Seeing him eat a 5 pound, 17 inch burrito in just over three minutes was eye popping. It was like watching a gator on fast forward. big grin smiley

Perhaps the saddest part of this spectacle is that many consider it to be an actual sport. I don't find any joy when a race car driver crashes, but I'll laugh my ass off when Chestnut chokes to death. What idiocy.

I could eat 6 and, if really prepped, maybe 9. It would take me more than the allotted time, though.

"Although Chestnut fell short of his 70-dog goal, his latest victory means he’s again bested former rival Takeru Kobayashi, who had won six times before he was banned from the competition"

Why the banning??

Contract dispute with the league sanctioning the eating contest at Nathan's.

It seems Nathan's puts some money where their corporate mouth is.

"Each year, Nathan’s makes a donation of 100,000 hot dogs to food banks on July 4th, during the annual hot dog eating contest. In a tradition that started with Nathan Handwerker, Nathan’s gives back to the community by supporting many worthy charitable causes each year."

The organizations behind the eating events have conducted charity drives to raise money, as much as $100,000, for food banks and other charitable organizations in the past. I'm not sure what they've done recently.

What really amazes me is that 100 pound Korean girl Sonya Thomas who can also eat vast quantities of food.

After checking, she actually weighs a buck five.

Each Nathan’s Famous hot dog and bun has 290 calories, 17 grams of fat and 710 milligrams of sodium. A normal American — not a gustatory gladiator — is supposed to consume 2,000 calories a day, and no more than 200 grams of fat or 2,300 milligrams of salt.

Doing the math, Chestnut ate 20,010 calories, 1,173 grams of fat and 48,990 miligrams of sodium.

Hey, maybe they used the 97% fat free franks. big grin smiley

That knocks the dogs down to 3,105 calories, 69 grams of fat, 1,035mg cholesterol and 33,810mg sodium.

Room for dessert!
