Didn't Dave Letterman once try to melt a car with some powerful light?

There are so many high quality and incredibly bright lights available from reputable companies and sellers, why waste your money and time with cheap and potentially dangerous lights? The 3800 lumens is most likely inflated and not really measured.

Durability and reliabilty is more imporant to me. Also, are these lights "regulated" or are you getting a few minutes of max brightness and then a rapid fade to dim?

Reality is, that puppy will probably hit around 2000-2100 actual OTF lumens. It's the big brother to the C8 style Ultrafire's they've had recently. Heckuva price for the brightness, though you can score the same light body w/ XML2 U2 emitters for about the same price from Chinese resellers if absolute brightness is your thing. You're gonna get an aluminum "pill" emitter housing, and very basic regulator components and wiring on this model, which means you won't be able to show off your toy on high for any sort of extended period, even if you option up to really good (expensive), well regulated batteries. OTOH, if you keep it on medium, which ought to still throw a legit 800 lumens, it's probably gonna be a pretty good light. For that style/model you have to pay at least double, or close to triple, to get high end components throughout the light. If you're thinking about buying it to use at max brightness for any length of time, save your money. For an occasional 'wow' factor, and a decently bright light on medium, that will nonetheless seem huge in comparison to the C8, the price is right. Also, stay away from the low end batteries for that thing; option up to decent, regulated batteries if you intend to use it for more than a couple of minutes at a time.

I'm sure that 3800 lumens is bunk. But I don't doubt that it will blind anyone standing in front of it. My guess was that at best, it might hit 2000. From what I've read online this is similar to the other lights that Yugster has offered. There are fakes mixed in with the real ones. I've been lucky twice so far, but I'm not sure I want to tempt fate a 3rd time.

zf2z- They're either all fakes, or all real, depending on how you classify them... these lights are assembled from a myriad of separately sourced Chinese parts, each w/ varying degrees of quality available. The 'quality' goes to both materials and workmanship; anodizing, thread cutting, washers, reflector/lens material and accuracy, regulation circuitry, wiring, "pill" material and wiring, tail switch componentry, emitter mount, and the emitter itself, etc.. The various levels of each represent a few cents to maybe a buck or so difference per jump. Everything is "real" at every level, unless you assign everything under a certain level as "fake". Clearly it seems to be a game amongst the distributors to create their version of a salable light at the lower levels. The higher end outfits spell out what you get, and some even let you roll your own, so there should not be any "fakes" there, but they leave a bigger dent in your wallet. You can get brightness at all levels, but to get regulated, predictable longevity of that brightness, the piper pretty much has to be paid. IOW, do you want to blind just the first wave of attackers, or the whole army?

The only safety issue is if the 18650 batteries are not "protected" They should have charge/discharge protection circuitry up top just below the button.

I could install one of these in the read window and turn it ON at night when morons tailgate me.

or I could install a laser in the rear bumper aimed at their tires and melt their ties, no harm to their eyes but 2 front flats at the same time.

why, you think they will ever catch me? an infrared laser which human eye cannot see, pointed low at the tires of the offending car behind me, and just enough power (several hundred watts) to melt the tires of the car tailgating me. I won't even stop. LOL. of course I'd use it 2x-3x and then take it off the car. I bet the drivers won't even realize what happened. LOL.

I bit!

We have coyotes running around our condo and the flashlights that I have are too puny…

…so this could be a needed deterrent (if it works)?

Anyway, I'm on the hook for one of each, flashlight and batteries.

Fingers are crossed. oh snap smiley (still like the old smilies and glad they kept this one)
