Beer, meed, and more beer. Take a side trip to Boulder.

Readstone Meadery, Boulder Beer, Oskar Blues, Avery Brewing, Left Hand Brewing, and New Belgium would be my top picks.

You could also do Coors and Anheiser Bush.

New Belgium might be interesting. Looks to be about an hour.
Anything else to do up north of Denver? 2 hours in the car is two more hours than I'd prefer to spend.

Those familiar with my neighborhood would find great irony in me traveling to Colorado and then seeking out Mexican food...

By the way, what is meed? Is that something you have to troll craigslist for?

I am much more a mountain sorta gal, so my advice would be to spend a couple hours in a car and find yourself a good little mountain hideaway to explore for a couple of days. If you were going to southern Colorado, I could certainly recommend plenty of areas.

Thanks Steph. Communing with nature is high on my list but I really don't want to spend more time i a car than I have to.

I once had a few hours and stopped at the museum of natural history. It's been quite a few years, but it was fun, and I still have my souvenir coffee cup. They had some great dinosaur skeletons.

The drive across the Rockies this time of year is quite beautiful, but as you say, you don't want to spend a couple of days in a car. I'm a big fan of the Sierras here in CA, but the Rockies are awesome and different, and of course unlike any other place in North America. I don't know how far you would have to go from Denver to get to some of the high country, but it is definitely worth seeing.

90 minutes tops (each way).

My fav Mex food place when I lived there was down at the horse track .....if it is still there. Golden (Coors beer) and Boulder good places to go. Estes Park a little father.

You can do an easy daytrip to Boulder by RTD express bus.

Bike around Capitol Hill or the Cherry Creek area. I'm fond of the Art Deco houses along Bonnie Brae St.

You missed the 4/20 party, er rally, in April. Visit a few dispensaries instead.

The art museum, the natural history museum, the mint are all places that are interesting. See a Rockies game. They have an awesome zoo, and the botanical gardens are nice, especially the Japanese garden area. You could tour the Molly Brown house, or the Avoca Lodge, her summer house. Lots more to do there too.

I guess next step is to see if I can get by without the rental car entirely. Had a hope of finding a =cheap= motel type place (?$40/night) and those are typically along some outer ring-type road. Concert venue (Dick's Park) ( :-) ) is also kind of way out there.
Oh, did I mention the main reason for going was to fulfill my lifelong dream of seeing Snoop Dog perform live two nights in a row?
