Router or WAP or...?

We're dropping my daughter off at college on Sunday and there are still a few loose ends I'm dealing with. The campus has several wireless access points throughout, but the dorm rooms themselves are not wireless. From the FAQ:

Each room has one data port that allows students to access the Internet through the campus network. Currently the campus has a 9.1 Mb/sec connection to the Internet, this is equivilant to approximatly 8 concurrent cable modem broadband Internet access. If the room will have more than one computer in it, a hub may be signed out from the Computer Center.

So I'm thinking that since my daughter's MacBook has wireless capabilities, I could plug a wireless router into the jack and she can use it wirelessly. Seems almost too simple. So what is the downside to this idea, assuming it's even possible?

I vote for an Airport Express. No downside I can think of if you secure the wireless connection.

If it's anything like where I go, they don't allow personal wireless routers. You should be able to use any type of hub though.

depends upon their particular network configuration. I know at my school they locked your MAC address to the network.

hrm, maybe it would work if the router had a configurable mac address...

Most wireless routers can spoof a MAC address.

It is what it is.
