To be clear, it's a lifetime warranty that costs $50/year (membership), right? It's a great thing for people who can never imagine not being a Costco member, but don't let the membership lapse.

You pretty much have to have the membership and regularly buy other things, yes. I have the executive membership and get %2 back an ut usually covers the membership cost.

now guess where I ordered it from.

thx for the tips guys; now I can give away the S2 to my friends before they leave on their African photo and binocular safari in a week and a half.

$401 with tax and shipping.

I bought one for Mavis for her birthday (Sept. 3rd).

The BIG 75!

Because I wanted to give her the camera on Sunday and Costco wouldn't get it here until the fifth, I checked out Best Buy and found a better deal. $399 minus 12% for a discount coupon that had just arived for the Labor Day Weekend Customer Appreciation promo. Came to $352. Great timing!

I still have the Costco order on the way. I guess I'll have to return it. Luckily, they state that it can be returned to as local warehouse for a full refund, including shipping.

I spent last night playing with Mavis' new S3 smiling smiley

Neat little camera. So far, just one design negative that is annoying. No threading to allow use of neutral filter to protect lens.

Otherwise, it looks like a perfect camera for my S/O who has been really developing her picture editing skills.

I told her it's like a baby sister (she didn't like referring to it as a baby brother) to my 20D.

She may have trouble prying it out of my hands. I'm having so much fun playing with it.

Everyone have a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend!

Gene, there's a little button on the lower side of the lens, that when pushed, allows the fat stubby inner ring around the lens to be removed and replaced w/ a threaded tube to which you can attach filters and/or accessory wide or tele lens adapters, all of course available at nominal add'l charge... you'll enjoy it! I hope Mavis gets a chance to, too smiling smiley

Buzz, you interpreted the situation correctly. It's like when my Dad gave me a set of Lionel trains when I was little and then played with them himself while I sat watching and wondering when I would get a chance to play with them.

I do really like this little camera, but I'll force myself to let Mavis use it.

I had read about adding the wide angle and telephoto auxiliary lenses, but I'm not sure if there is an adapter that allows you to simply use just a filter.

How does that work? Is the part sold separately? I definitely would buy it if available.

Gene, it's the same adapter tube... it sticks out a hair past the lens when fully extended, and will accept filters, as well as the wide & tele lenses; and yes, it is sold separately, or included in various accessory packages. I have the S1 and S2, though the S2 dropped the sport mode from the settings wheel, necessitating creating a "custom" setting and saving it to shoot Baby Buzz's sporting activities. problem is remembering to make sure the right "custom" setting is selected when quickly changing the mode wheel from "auto" to "C". built in sport mode is back on the S3, so remembering won't be an issue again. you may want to consider NOT returning your costco order smiling smiley

Thanks for the tip, Buzz.

Sure enough, I was just looking at the camera with Mavis and guess what…

a fingerprint right smack in the middle of the lens sad smiley

I better get that adapter and a filter real fast.

why should I keep the second S3? I already have Canon 20D.

As I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

I just followed through on the adapter and found one made by Lensmate [www.lensmateonline.com] that is made from aluminum. It seemed to be a much better product than the plastic adapter from Canon. A clip-in lens cap was available with it as well as a Hoya HMC UV filter for a total price that I felt was only $15.00 (including shipping) more than the Canon adapter alone.

I can't wait to get these accessories in place on Mavis camera, so that I can stop worrying about the lens.

Thanks again for the great tip smiling smiley
