I'm looking for a sex ed book focusing on anatomy and the basic things a young woman needs to know about herself. I'm sure many of you are parents and would have books to suggest. I've already read a series of books on the very basics of what things look like on the outside, how things work etc, and this time I'm looking for a little more advanced anatomy centered book. There are so many to choose from on amazon that I decided to ask for advice. Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

You are right about the information being on the internet for free. Doing a search on this topic will also bring up a lot of things she isn't ready for yet (and I'm the one who decides that) so I'm looking for an educational book. Soon enough she will learn about more advanced topics. Again, thanks for any recommendations in particular books.

If you're looking for a puberty book - "It's Perfectly Normal"

Targeted at kids a little younger than teen years but you can pick and choose information out of there. Some of it can be a bit "much" depending on how much is already know. Some illustrations are also on the more graphic side, again depending on how prudish you want to be while approaching the topic. But overall well written, well presented, and age appropriate.

If you're looking for something more advanced, I guess it depends on what type of information you're exactly trying to teach?

albeit it was the 60ies but that's where we all got our sex ed. Rather clinical, but touched all the bases including STDs.

To me, a lot of this depends on what you want her to learn, and from what perspective (e.g., how you want to approach it).

If she's a teenager, she probably already knows a lot, without your having told her anything.

If you want her learning more details about the anatomy and how everything works, Our Bodies, Ourselves is a great choice (as others have mentioned), but here are some others:

... one of these might suit you (and her!). I especially like the looks of that first one, given how frequently teenage girls are uncomfortable, unhappy, and/or insecure with their bodies. It's good to have a book for them to read that tells them that everything they're worried about is, most often, totally normal.
