I need a search engine that is reliable (I used Jaxed until CL shut them down).

Hurts like a bastid...

Any reason not to simply manually search in the two or three closet Craigslist?

If you have items you are routinely looking for, I used to solve this problem by performing the desired search on each desired Craigslist location and then subscribing to the resulting RSS feed. Haven't needed to do this in a while, but it might still work.

Since many people refuse to ship to people when listing on Craigslist, shouldn't you only have a handful of close locations? Are you reality going to drive hundreds of miles for your routine Craigslist purchase?

I'm in Maryland, I'm not looking through California Craigslist sites. Am I?

I use searchtempest.

I will go a long way for a big ticket item. I drove 400 miles for a snowblower listed on Craigslist and 400 miles for a new car albeit an eBay purchase. And 1300 miles for a used car, also eBay. I am very happy with all three items. I would need very high confidence the seller would hold the item if it were via Craigslist.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

I use [claz.org]
At one time, they had problems with the CL, not sure how everything was resolved, but there is quite a lot of ads
