I'm going to try and get OSX onto my Beige, Do I need to back up all of the drives, or just the drive (or partition) that I'm installing on?

You don't NEED to..
But it would be foolish NOT to.

It depends. If you back everything up then nothing will go wrong and you will have wasted all that time. On the other hand, if you don't back up then everything on your system will get hosed. Your choice.

An installation should not touch other partitions or drives. And osx is meant to play well with os9 stuff, so you should be fine just backing up the installation partition.

By all means back it all up. Your time and energy may be wasted because everything *could go perfectly fine*, but then again....especially on an old Beige Mac.

For a guy like you that actually earns money with his machine, I'd keep everything fully backed up at all times.

So that if the plumbing upstairs gives out while you';re gone and you come back to a totally destoryed computer - a FULL back up can get you up an running in just a few minutes.

Frankly I'm amazed that you don't already have a full BO of your system disc at least.

I was talking about the internal drives doofass, not my recording drives. And did I say my system is NOT backed up? I want to know if I have to have other things backed up as well.

Since installing X on Beige can involve some patience, trial-and-error, and stubbon optimism, once you get a good install and it runs great in OSX, definitely make a duplicate of that successful drive or partition. Keep a clone of it. It's good to have in case you need to reapply it, so you don't have to go through the whole install process again. Copying a successful OS X install is much easier than installing one from scratch.

How on earth did you take my post as an insult? I answered your question pretty well I thought.

Should you back up your drives? Yes.

"I was talking about the internal drives doofass,"

that's what I assumed you were talking about. They should be backed up inside and out all the time - don't you think? You didn't mention anything about 'recording' drives in your first post.

Yer always assuming that I'm trying to insult you and then call me 'doofass'. I wish you'd stop that.

Read my post again - there is no insulting undertone to it - swear t'god.
