how do I remove iOS 7 from iPad and iPhone? I didn't install yet

Apple pushed iOS 7.0.2 a few weeks ago on my iPad and Wife's iPhone 5. So far they didn't push it on my iPhone 5 somehow. I am not sure why. But on wife's iPhone and our iPad the iOS 7 was pushed by Apple, we just got a notice that it was downloaded and it was ready for install. We did NOT click to download it. As I don't intend to update to iOS 7 for now, I would like to remove it. It takes 700 MB of space.

I see my update files in: ~/Library/iTunes/ and then iPhone Software Updates and iPad Software Updates

Edit: 4 files taking up almost 4.5 GB... Sheesh!

WTF? I've had no problem at all avoiding iOS7 install. I just said, no and stop asking. I'm gonna upgrade phones soon - I see no point in upgrading now.

Same here. Both iPhones ask for it when plugged in, I just click no.

If you have it on yours, then somehow/way/one clicked "yes"

Once again, nothing was Plugged in. (I am talking about these 2 devices where Apple pushed iOS 7)

I think I figured it out.

The iPad and wife's iPhone, the devices where Apple pushed the iOS7 without asking the user were never synced with a computer. We used iCloud to sync calendars and contacts and photos, never plugged into a Mac.

My iPhone on the other hand was plugged into my MBP and Synced with iTunes, that was before iOS 7 was released, and on this device Apple did not push iOS 7.

So my theory is this

If a device has never been synced with a computer, Apple pushes iOS7 without user intervention. You can ignore it, but you cannot delete it (at least not easily)

If a device has been synced with iTunes, then Apple does not push iOS7 over the air, probably assumes you will sync again soon and will install iOS 7 via iTunes.

This seems patently false. Many people are complaining about being pushed an update without connecting to iTunes. Hand waving the problem is not a good solution, and frankly one of the reasons I am weening myself off iOS. I don't feel like I own the devices as much as rent from Apple.

Have you tried one of those Mac file browsers for iOS? Wouldn't it let you dig around and possible delete the iOS update file?

Something like this:

Many people are complaining about being pushed an update without connecting to iTunes.

That's strange, because many people complained about having to connect to iTunes to do updates. Now that Apple has made that unnecessary, people are complaining about not having to connect to iTunes to do updates.

The problem is not OTA updates, which aren't new (however auto updates are new if I correctly remember my iOS version release), but pushing an unremovable, unwanted update is annoying.

Then again, maybe space-time is holding it wrong.

You know, I had Nokia e72 that had a similar warning. Too bad for Apple, unlike with the iPhone 4, I had to hold the phone in a death grip with two hands in order to cause the signal to drop. Did you notice Apple tweaked the antenna design with later models? Guess that was just a coincidence.

In all seriousness, why won't more people actually offer suggestions to help space-time? He's an Apple guy, asked an honest question, and mostly received flak for something out of his control. What's the deal?

I agree with the lawsuit and unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any easy way to remove the auto-downloaded update from the iOS device.

Hope the lawsuit will make Apple fix this.

This. If Apple would simply offer a solution, there wouldn't be a need for a lawsuit. Unfortunately, they have not.
