Weird Wide Web Problem - iMac will "network" fine, but Web Real Slow...

Got this iMac Core 2 Duo 20"....
Connected to the network at work.
Email: runs fine.
Network file copies: Runs fine.
Networked database app: runs fine.
Pings from my computer to this one: fast and fine.
Pings from this computer to "the internet": fast and fine.
Any Web Page from Any Browser: totally not fine. Dog S L O W. Like 5 minutes to load a web page.

Tried a different user account: Same.
Tried a different network cable: Same.
Tried a different switch port: Same.
Tried reinstalling the 10.6.8 combo update: Same.
Tried installing a new never before used web browser (Omniweb): Same.
Tried deleting the network interface (both Ethernet and Airport) and re-adding: Same.
Tried switching to a different access point: Same.

This computer is just not "web happy", and yet, other computers in the same room, on the same switch, work just fine.

So what system pref should I look at being the culprit? Other forms of network traffic and my Apple Remote Desktop network test shows everything is A-OK... and yet, web no worky!
Oh, also note: not just external web sites, but an internal (intranet) site as well.

Suggestions welcomed!

what if you boot from another drive? maybe there is something corrupt in this OS that even a combo update cannot fix

How about resetting PRAM?

For some reason, If one of my Macs is uploading something everything just gets slow. Even when Dropbox/Box/Google Drive, or whatever was free that week is syncing.

If that doesn't work it may be time to call in I.T.

Make sure that you haven't got any proxy settings enabled... unless you need to set a web proxy, in which case be sure to set a proxy.

Great thought... I did check that, but I will check again since it is acting sort of like it's trying to run through a really slow proxy.

Nothing out of the ordinary that I could see.

I found a couple tips via Google that I'll try tomorrow...
Disabling IPv6 (it may already be).
and deleting Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist (no idea what it is... but two people solved similar problems by deleting it. )

Try running the flush DNS cache terminal command as well. Has to be some sort of odd DNS issue. Is it slow if you put in an IP address instead of a website name?

It appears that deleting the com.apple.alf.plist file and restarting cleared the problem up!

Now I'm off to look up what that's supposed to do that's good when it works.

The tips!
