AirPlay: is there a trick to switch between iPhone and the AirPlay speaker?

I enjoy this Pioneer A1 speaker but I have a very hard time bringing up that menu to switch between the iPhone and speaker. That little rectangle with arrow at the bottom. It is very hard to activate. Sometime it works on the first try, sometimes it takes 10 tries. What's the trick?

The control is NOT coming up, that is the problem. That looks like iOS7, I am still on 6

Well, this explains it from within Pandora, but the sure-fire way to make sure it's working for all audio in iOS 6 is to double click the home button (as you would if you were trying to navigate or quit open apps), and then swipe left to the Airplay button. This will control the audio output of anything from your device.

It sounds like the OP (space-time) knows this but is having issues with Airplay being available or registering. All I can tell you is that everything works much more smoothly in iOS7. While Airplay used to be kind of finicky for me in 6.x, it has been very reliable in iOS7.

once again, my airplay IS working fine. Suppose I am playing on the Airplay speaker and I want to switch back to the iPhone. I need to click this little button 10 times to make the next menu pop up and revert back to iPhone.

This is gonna sound strange but if there's a case on the phone, remove it, make sure the touch surface is clean and try again.

I had a heck of a time doing something on mine (swiping up to access the new Control Center thing in iOS7) because I discovered I needed to begin the swipe from below the touch surface area, at the bottom edge of the phone and my case was barely covering it, even though activating the camera from swiping up on the lock screen was never a problem.

Try also "force-quitting" the app and relaunching if you haven't already. Or removing Pandora and reinstalling it.

I think it is a Pandora issue. on Amazon Cloud Player it works every single time. The volume bar stays visible, the Airplay button at the right of volume bar works every time.

But on Pandora the volume bar is hidden after a while. when I try to adjust the volume, the volume bar appears but that Airplay button is very stubborn, takes multiple tries to make it work.

I will delete and reinstall Pandora.

BTW, I have a bumper case from OWC, no screen protector. case if far away from that button, it cannot be the cause.

That's a good hunch. The example you show is from the Pandora interface (not a system interface), so if that's what's causing you problems, it must be Pandora. Your Amazon Cloud Player example sounds liek further proof.
