What do you guys think of the HP Pavilion 27xi 27" LED Monitor?

I recently bought a damn fine refurb 13" MBA and now need to get a new monitor to work from home. The last time I bought a monitor was about 5 years ago. I'm not hip to what all the kids like nowadays. (Says the 33 year old.)

It looks like it has great features and is only $220. The inputs also seem to be in order. What say you all? Any other recs? Should I wait until Black Friday or nah?

Thanks guys.

Its probably fine, and inputs mean little these days. Theres enough adapters out there to make anything fit anything.

However -- for me -- 1920 x 1080 in a 27" = pass.

With a 27" those young eyes of yours wants 2560 x 1440 (same as 27" iMac, if you have seen one of those)

Not sure if you are really on a budget, but the current "like" for a 27" is the monoprice model, $390...

Fine if you can settle for a 1080p display. If I need to go with a 27" display to fit into a specific space, I would to with the Monoprice 27".

I am currently waiting to see if Panasonic is going to fix the banding issue on their 4K TV because it is the only 65" TV with a DisplayPort input.

I have really crappy young eyes, so I'll probably keep the resolution around 1920 x 1080 anyway. That said, I should probably check out some other high res monitors because I should look at my web work in resolutions some users may have. Hrm. I guess I may be on a $300 max budget but I'm willing to wait a bit longer to save up another $100 to get a different monitor.

I briefly considered this monitor [www.amazon.com] but don't feel like going down that route of possibly having dead pixels. I design web and mobile applications for a living. I don't have time and mental-frustration-energy for dead pixels in my way.

haikuman, nice. Even I had to jog my memory there.

We have a variant of this monitor - 27" high res with matte screen:

I think you should wait to have enough $$ for the nicer 27", or go with 24" 1080P. Frankly, you are not going to have a much more functional monitor as a 27" 1080P, and it'll take up more desk space.

Sekker, thanks for the suggestion. I should think about a 24" as well. That may just suit me just fine and I would save desk space and money.

If you would like to see it, you may want to check your local Costco. My local Costco had one on display.

I think 27" is wasted at 1080p, unless it specifically suits one's viewing requirements.

For watching movies or TV it's ok. A smaller monitor at 1080 might be find, but I'm so used to 2560x1440 that it was really disappointing you use another monitor at 1080.

Hrm, you guys have me thinking now. It may be time to venture on down to Best Buy to see what a 24" vs. a 27" really feels like. Like I said, it's been a while since I've bought an external monitor.

Thanks for the help everyone.
