My new car with 2300 miles on it was rear -ended

It is in the shop.

First rental car and only one on lot, was a Chevy Impala. 2012 0r 2013. What a piece of junk, top to bottom. Drove terrible, sounded like a tin can. This kind of car makes me amazed that the government bailed out the car industry. I can't believe anyone would buy this over a basic Honda or Toyota.

Went to trade it in for something that would not beat me up. Nothing on lot, but a new Jaguar Sedan. Drove it for 3 days, fun to drive, sits a little too low for me to see well, but I loved the stereo and blue tooth. I had to pay for $15 a day difference for the Jag. I would not buy this car, for the money.

Traded that in because I was told they might keep my car a lot longer. Now I have a Genesis. Huyndai, I think. Not what the media hypes these cars up to be. But not bad, leather interior, heated seats. I believe they are overpriced. Drives decent.

Glad you're fine. Cars are replaceable. It sounds like none of those cars measure up to your own.

No, I am happy with my car, and miss it. I have a little whiplash residual issues.

Trying to make the best of it. Most popular rental cars are the new Jeeps.

Glad the guy had USAA, retired army. He wasn't paying attention, he had a brand new iPhone and was on meds. But he admitted total responsibility. His was not hurt either.

I think the US cars that get to the rental lots are stripped-down versions. Which is too bad, because a lot of people form their impressions of car manufacturers on the basis of rental cars.

I drove an Impala a couple of months ago (mid- to upper-trim line) and it was quite acceptable. Better than acceptable, actually - quite a nice car. I particularly remember the football-textured leather seats and matching dash trim. But I'm not sure how it would have stacked up to a similarly-equipped Honda or Toyota, which is of course the relevant comparison.

Supposedly the new Impala is nicer. It did have leather.

Our 1956 Studebaker President was t-boned one week after getting it. Beautiful car! Had it repaired and we drove it many several years until it was rear-ended. That moved us into a Studebaker Lark, quite step down in size! Dad liked Studebakers.

Not IME. For example, I had a nicer Ford Fusion and the limited version of the Ford Taurus. Taurus was meh and the Fusion was actually pretty decent, except the driver's seat wasn't lined up with the foot well so my right leg couldn't go straight or to the right at all - instead it was pointing to the left.

Depends - they do get the options that help resale value. But there were a bunch of rental cars w/o side-airbags built when the version available to the public had them standard.

I also know a car that came standard with sunroof, but there are ex-rental cars w/o a sunroof.

I can get used to any car. But they don't really matter, so long as you are doing ok deco.

Glad you are okay.

That's the important thing. What new car do you have that got rear ended?

Some of you may remember that our old Toyota Matrix was t-boned in a roundabout and totaled. Then the brand new one hit a deer with only 1000 miles on the car....$6000 in repairs. It's been three years and where the repair was made is more than obvious.

The paint is chipping on the replacement front bumper and the replacement fog light has long since fallen out. Repaired is definitely not as good as new...time to take it back and hold them to the "lifetime warranty" on repair. FYI...that was after taking it to the shop in town that is rated best and most expensive.

Ugh...it's horrible to have a new car damaged in any way, let alone a serious bump. I'm glad that you are ok...

Which is too bad, because a lot of people form their impressions of car manufacturers on the basis of rental cars.

Please.

A lot of Chevy's lineup has been junk for years, and it has nothing to do with what options they didn't have. Too much playact, cheap aluminum trim, bland, cheap looking… No amount of options will cover that up.

It's good to hear the newer Impala is better. I drove one awhile back it was really disappointing. I hope the newer Chevys are better as well.

When car shopping a few years back, I was so disappointed in Chevrolet's offerings I actually looked at a <gasp> Ford! The fit and finish, and quality of the interior was so much better than anything Chevy had, except a Corvette. Then a buddy bought a 2007 and 2009 Avalanche and Yukon, and they also had very cheap, tacky looking interiors, heavy on the slap-dash design.

Glad you're ok, dmann.

I have newish 2007 & 2009 four door Honda Civics and early-mid 90 Volvo wagons, both are solid cars that I like a lot.

If I had it to do over again, I'd do the same thing, American cars just don't hold a candle to them, unless you want to spend a bundle. The Honda's were $17,000 each, a great deal for what I got.

I had a Cruze in Dallas over the summer and it wasn't too bad. Had a pre-update Impala in Houston in Sept and agree that it was cheap-feeling, compared to the newer Imp and Malibu.

Generally been much happier with the Ford rentals that I've had of late - the latest Fusion was quite nice (nicer, in fact, than the Taurus that my parents had at the same time for my brother's wedding), and the recently updated Edge (circa 2012) wasn't bad either.

And agree with surfrider - while a newer car is nice, my $1000 Volvo wagons treat me right and are solid like rocks (intermittent care, feeding and troubleshooting notwithstanding, but I enjoy that kind of thing).
