[OT: meow] seeking recommendations for low tracking litter

I live in an NYC city apt - this means i don't have a basement for hiding a litter box. I use Swheat Scoop litter and a top entry litter box but there's still plenty of litter tracking.

Any tricks for low tracking litter?

You are searching for the grail, my friend.
IMHO, low tracking litter is almost an oxymoron.

Tidy Cats Breeze might be something to look at. The pellets are bigger than standard litter so don't escape the box as easily, and if they do are more easily corralled. The systems are not an inexpensive investment, but I've found that cats take to them pretty easily and do a nice job of reducing both odor and tracking. Supplies do cost a bit more on a monthly basis than name-brand litter.

Some kind of high-tech stealth product?

We used to use swheat scoop but it seemed very dusty and tracked a lot. Changed to Dr. Elsey and am very happy. I put a mat in front of the box and that seems to catch everything, so it doesn't track beyond that.

Yes, like low-flying aircraft, or high-altitude surveillance equipment. grinning smiley

But seriously, have you considered either of these alternatives?:

1. Clay litter;
2. Bath mat;
3. There is no #3.

There is always a third option .........

I used a "fake plastic grass" (the spikey kind) door mat in front of the litter box. It trapped most of the litter...and weekly would empty it back into the box.
