The plastic pegs that hold up the shelfs in my refrigerator have broken off and and after 2 years I now no longer have any working shelfs to put items on. Is there some type of refrigerator shelf sytem that I can put in it?? The landlord's not terribly helpful and I'd like to handle it myself. I don't think it can be crazy glued to work reliably. There are holes where the pegs used to be and some small plastic fragment must be lost because the pegs don't fit snugly into the holes. I know it would just be easier for the landlord to buy a new refrigerator but that's not going to happen.

Go to the web site for the manufacturer of your refrigerator - you should be able to buy replacement "pegs" for a reasonable cost.

get an appropriately sized wooden or metal dowel then cut it to the length you need - either will outlast plastic.

LOL, mostly beer.... A LOT OF BEER.
Actually the refrigerator way older than 2 years.
The first shelf went the week I moved in and so the second shelf had to bear
all the weight and it's gone now too. I have no more shelves in it at all!
Thanks for the tips guys, I don't think replacement peg are the answer because
these plastic pegs have broken off and left holes in the side. I guess I'll try to
get the landlord to replace it but I'm pretty sure he's going to blame
me for a 20 year refrigerators demise.

I realise it is in the interest of manufacturers to make their products break down after the warranty has run out but fridges are still the most reliable of white goods and you often hear of examples running decades after they were bought. When we bought our first house we took over a huge freezer that was at least 15 years old at the time. It finally packed up last year after we had used it for another 26 years and even then it wasn't really its fault, we had very low voltage for about 12 hours and the pump burnt out. The mechanics of fridges and freezers are excellent but what fails are the cheap and flimsy plastic drawers and shelves and it's usually that which makes us go out and buy a new model. I'm certain that if the manufacturers spent about £5 (do your own conversion) more on the plastic the machines would last you a lifetime.

I know, prices would then go up to give the companies their profits but think of the lesser impact on the environment.

I have no problem with asking a landlord to repair a fridge that doesn't get cold or a heater than doesn't heat or a door that doesn't lock, but I've personally had the experience of having tenants break things through carelessness ("hey, we accidentally smashed a chair into the window during our party" or "our dog chewed up the stairway bannisters, can you replace them") and expecting me to fix them and am constantly amazed at how some tenants have no understanding of personal responsibility.

davester, I'm actually a landlord and I will fix anything the tenants break that isn't due to their carelessness. Actually, I fixed a $40 shower handle lately that was broken because it came loose and they didn't tell me about it. I'd rather shell out a few bucks and maintain a good relationship with my tenants then argue over small cash items...

I thought he was being facetious about the beer thing...maybe not

I wish my landlord was as nice as you Kiva. I can't even get them to fix a leaky sink. I would be pissed but they pay the water bill...so their loss.
