printing labels from addressbook

When printing labels from Addressbook is it possible to edit any of the names? For instance, in Addressbook I have "Bob Smith" but on the actual label I'd like it to say "Bob and Andrea Smith" so it will be more personal. Is there a good way to do this? Thanks.

I have not found a way to do this other than by altering the names in the Address Book or make a separate entry first. I have another v-card for many with all data that I use for all other purposes.

I have a Group "Christmas cards" that I use for this purpose. I just select the group and print the labels.

You could set up a separate Add. Bk for this purpose, and put it in a different User account. Call that User Christmas or Santa Claus. That would eliminate duplicate entries for the same person. Drawback: any future changes need to be made in two places.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

I've been googling and it appears that address book used to have this capability and it was removed for some reason. Strange. [support.apple.com]

Rather than printing directly from Address book, I use a free app "Pearlabelizer" for Mac and after you drag the names/addresses onto it's template, you can modify them without disturbing your address book. Love it. See here to get it: [download.cnet.com]

I'm going to check out that app but I did find a workaround in the meantime. It's fairly easy to do. I found it at [discussions.apple.com]

1) If you don’t have a 10.5 plist file, make your own. Copy the code below into a UTF-8 text editor (I prefer TextWrangler):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>ca</key>
<true/>
<key>uk</key>
<true/>
<key>us</key>
<true/>
<key>fr</key>
<true/>
</dict>
</plist>

2) Save that as “ABRelatedNamesConfig.plist”

3) Copy that file to:

/Applications/Address Book.app/Contents/Resources/

4) Prep your contacts so that the Spouse - Name entry is the full name. For instance, for a contact named John Doe, the Spouse field should read “Jane Doe” and then the printed label for John will read "John and Jane Doe"

I sure wish Apple would divert some resources to make Address Book useful. They should just dig up an old copy of Touchbase Pro and port it to a current code.
