It's Tuesday, and the Apple Store is ... still up.

Apple still makes Mac stuff, right? I mean, only 800+ days since they updated their only monitor offering. The coming-in-December Mac Pro is there. You can't order it yet. That meant this December, right?

I shouldn't bitch, I finally got my MacBook Pro. Sure would have liked to have been ordering a new monitor with it but; baby steps, baby steps.

Apple's monitors are always overpriced, anyway.

Agreed, but still haven't found one that matches quality & convenience when you're an MBP user. Single cable with both power & TB, then multiple ports on the monitor. It could be about 40% cheaper, though, even with all that.

There are still two Tuesdays left.... Release on New Year's Eve and no 2013 budget/tax benefit - but still time to order one... right?

They're being built right near us in Austin, TX... that line has been up now for months.... I'm sure they want all aspects - perhaps including the damn OS 10.9 rev shipping with it - to be as perfect as possible... Unless some silly component supply issue or software problem being quashed (maybe why 10.9.1 isn't out to fix issues for the rest of us) - who knows.

I know they had to go and reinvent how computers are designed and built again... Not sure of the functional benefits, but form seems ever more important at Apple.

I'd bet good money that 95% of the Mac Pro customer base out there would have taken the same chassis design with the updated processor architecture and Thunderbolt ports and been extremely happy. In reality - could have shrunk that chassis down a good bit too by taking out one of the two optical bays + the new processors already run cooler and don't need the heatsinks that the 2012 and prior needed - so opportunity to reconfigure where the PCIe slots placed, etc... what could have been.

Glad we have all those Thunderbolt 2 ports... but they don't compare to a 16X PCIe 3.0 slot or even an 8X PCIe 2.0 slot... basically equivalent in bandwidth to about a 4X PCIe 2.0 slot.

Lots of potential... i just hope this new design really is of high benefit and isn't a case of form creating challenge for the functional aspect be it manufacturing or operational. A bay less, slot less system I suppose already arguably put form over function none the less.

ramble over.

Belying the basic principle that form should follow function.

well, not sure if it would affect product rollout, but they close the some App Store functions so that staff can enjoy time off during the holidays.

I get the feeling we'll be looking at a Dec 30 or 31st launch of the Mac Pro. "Available to ship in 3-4 weeks" or something like that. So, not really a December launch, but a late Jan, early Feb launch.

How's that "just in time" supply chain looking, Tim?

Funny, when I see the new Mac Pro images, all that comes to mind is the original Mac/MacSE. What's so darn special about the Pro being portable? Is there REALLY a big market for on-site power computing? Maybe so.

Maybe they don't want to repeat the debacle of the original Thunderbolt models not having a working port until an OS update 4 months later.

Edit: I take it as Apple trying to personally discredit my prediction of a release date 5 months ago. RollingEyesSmiley5

And there is still a dearth of mini refurbs.
