Macbook Pro to TV Question

This is a pass along question from a Facebook friend about something I know nothing about. Can you help her out?

"To my fellow Macbook users…I have the 13 in Macbook Pro- without the Retina display. I need an adapter so I can hook my computer to my tv. I have the HDMI cable to the TV, but no where to connect it to my computer…Suggestions? I know I need an adapter, where do I go to get it without having to travel to the Apple store. (and preferably cheaper!)"

monoprice has every adapter necessary for any macbook/macbook pro/mini/imac made -- for under $10 -- you just need to know what kind of plug it has...

If its just a couple of years old then it will be mini display port to hdmi.

She doesn't say what year her MBP is. The earlier ones didn't support audio over HDMI, so she'd need an adapter that combines the audio from the headphone jack or via USB with the Mini DisplayPort video. Monoprice has these as well. The MDP/USB one I have has crappy audio. The MBP/optical audio one is better (note it has a USB cable for power). If she has a later model, then she just needs the MDP to hdmi adapter or cable (the adapter/cable needs to support audio over hdmi also).
