'You're Invisible, But I'll Eat You Anyway.' Secrets Of Snow-Diving Foxes

The video is awesome. And the fox, let's face it, is very cute.

I'm a fox. It's January. I'm hungry. I want a meal. My food, however, is buried 3 feet down, deep in the snow, hiding. It's alive, in motion, and very small, being a mouse. So how does an above-ground fox catch an underground mouse? Well, the answer is nothing short of astonishing.

That IS very cool. I've sat in the snow and watched a red fox do that when I was a teenager. The fox quietly stood and listened... his ears moved to focus the sound. And then.. he leapt and dived. Sometimes he would leap just to drive the mouse into movement. Eventually he won, and Mr. Mouse became the Fox's dinner.

I've seen the same behavior in our cats when they were chasing a mole... they would stand around the mole tunnel and take turns leaping onto it, collapsing it. Eventually Mr. Mole gave up and came to the surface because he obviously could not dig in that stuff. He was then swooped up and played with until he broke.

What an incredible world we live in...and what a shame we do so much to destroy it.

Sounds like you really don't want to forget about agreeing on a safe word here.

just like dogs aligning with the magnetic field when they poop, same with foxes they hunt better when facing North.

The good news is once we're (humans) all gone, the planet will recover.

Great video.

And I like Selleck narrating.
