Beautitul area! (that's about 3-4 hours drive north of me).

I lived in Grants Pass for a year.
Gets warmer than I like (up to the 90's), and chilly in the winter... but not as severe temperture extreme's as most of the country has to put up with.

Couple things about Oregon..
Don't try to pump your own gas... it's illegal (they pump it for you).
And get used to Portland and Salem making all the laws, with little or no regard to the 98% of the state that is rural and has nothing to with the "reality distortion field" the city dwellers live in.

Good to hear you are picking up and moving on with life.

You sounded pretty down in your post a few days back. This sounds like a positive move.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU !

Half of Oregon's population lives in the Portland metro area. Are you suggesting trees should get the right to vote?

Don't lose your Tiger install discs in the move and then come here and ask, "what will I DO?"

No, I'm suggesting that a large metropolitian area has sway disproportionate to it's importance to a State as a whole, which is inherently unfair in a Republic.

Are you suggesting that if the population of Portland voted to (for silly example) have all left handers tatooed with a big "L", that it would be perfectly OK just because they are a majority of the population of the state?

Yeah, pretty much. You put Portland and Salem together, you're coming up on 60% of the population, not the 2% implied in Paul's first post. It's closing in on supermajority status.

And how is it the other 40% are some how more real?

Frankly, I'm tired of the idea that the rural vote matters more than the urban vote.

Man, I wish trees got the right to vote in this State!. You don't know what damage is until you walk a clear-cut, or even worse, live down river of one.

In the last year we can already see the dramatic impact Weyerhaeuser’s work up top has done to our Coho Salmon bearing creek.

There's an easy way to balance this out, you know.

Get 80% of the rural population to actually frickin' REGISTER AND VOTE. Only about 30% of the urban population can be bothered.

Voila! Equal representation!

Wow some great posts ~!~ Yes I was down.... challenges , changes, divorce, the Moon affecting the tide it is all related and similar. Perhaps my threshold for expressing emotions may be like and open book. Actually I feel somewhat amused and pleased that I have exposed my vulnerability. I feel that many of us here have quite a few common denominators aside from our Mac world.

Caretaking 20acres where deer come to the windows and are fed by hand is like a very special gift. I am an avid Steelhead, Salmon and Trout Fisherman .

I went to College @ Unitversity of Oregon Health Science Center in Portland and P.C.C.
Played a Ton of Hoops @ LauralHurst Park and of course it is a great Frisebe
Park.

However when I first arrived, besides eating all the Hymalain Black Berries I could stain my hands and mouth with I purchashed a book by Frank Amato on
Steelhead Fishing and drifting Pencil lead weight and Okie drifters.

I have fished the Sandy River on the edge of Troutdale, the Columbia River and the Willamette the Deshutes Summer run SteelHead, the Wilson River off of Hiway 26, the Trask, Nehalem, and the very most exciting and beautful Umqua River that has 25 miles of Fly Fishing only. I have caught lots of Trout above the dam on the Clackamas River.

I recently stayed in Mist Oregon {[en.wikipedia.org]} as my very
close friend died of cancer. We were born a year apart @ the same Hospital in
Long Beach Calif then met 19 years later.

We were close friends for almost 40 years meeting in 1966 thru a mutual friend.
On Dec 13 2005, he called me and told me he was dying of cancer and would I come and take care of him. By Dec. 16 I was on a flight to Portland then the third member of this friendship picked me up and drove me out to Mist about 30 miles from Astoria, Oregon. I stayed with Robert until he died Feb 22, after a weeks stay at the most wonderful Hospice Facility in Longview Wa.

Our common friend Stephen D assited Robert as much as possible before I arrived and after. The 3 of us played 3man intramural basketball at Portland Community College Our team name was """The Lame Duck Assn""" *(:>*

I plan on registering this logo and doing a T-Shirt in his Memory while donating
10% of any Profits to each of the following facilities "Hospice" and "The Cancer Society Research Facilities" while continuing to improve my F@H capabilities.

I would like to find an Artist who could render my ideas of the Logo. We would split the remaning 80% of any profit after expences.

As for the discourse regarding the City vs the Rural areas in my book the outdoors and Rural areas, complete me and help to maintain a balance on the City and Suburban sprawl.

Yet I feel we can exist and live together, <seperately> *(:>* with introspection and working together to distill and define what is "progress" and what is "encrochment"

I hope to connect with all of our Mac family in the area Paul. Those of you in Porkland
I found the City Parks and countryside most useful while attending College.
also very happy to hear that every TrailBlazer contract includes a
Bail Bondsman Services *(:>*

Besides living on Alder ST just a few blocks from Luralhurst Park and the old Carnation factory on Belmont st. My very good friend Stephen and myself lived at the top of Skyline Dr. byway of Corneilus Pass Rd. We rented a 100 acres and an old farmhouse from a well known Attorney at the time , Ruben Lenski.

When it was clear you could see the confluence of the Columbia River and the Willamette River. When it was cloudy and the city was abscured by the clouds
You could see Mt Hood, Mount Raineer, Mt St Helens, and the 7 Sisters.

Life goes on even after many years in Maui and a few small inconveinces.*(:>* I am really excited about moving, having the chance to purchase a real piece of the Rock again.

Some acreage that I will improve and in 20 years Ethan will have it to do with as he wishes. Finance College, or any of the things that might help to complete
his life, and dreams.

Yes I feel grounded again. Thank you very much for your replies and expanding the thread regarding "The City & "The Countryside-Rural areas"

We all have our own needs and prefs, I am still just naive enough to believe we
can co excist harmoniously *(:>*

Actually, folks in Salem may make the laws, but in terms of population, it goes:
1 Portland Metro
2 Eugene (near tie for 2)
2 Bend (near tie for 2)
3 all others

What it is, man, a low-down and funky feelin'

Yes, I live in the Rogue Valley near Jacksonville.

Are you thinking of Gold Hill which is just down I-5 from the city of Rogue River, Klamath Falls is 70+ miles away on the eastern side of the Cascades. Think you may enjoy your time here, make it quick before winter sets in, still in the low 80's right now. Get the photo ops in before the snows come.

Be sure to drop me a line if there is anything I can help you with.
