Yes, I really wish I could go back to iOS6. 3

My daughter's iPad3 goes with her to school, and we'd like the added security features of iOS7.

But the first reports are that iOS7 is slow on that machine.

We are also considering updating my wife's iPad mini - a device she loves - as well.

This weekend is between semesters for my daughter, and we have a snow day tomorrow. So this is an ideal time to tweak these iPads if we are going to.

Your qualitative thoughts are also appreciated.

TIA!

You may lose a tiny bit of speed but gain some new features in my opinion. I don't like everything about iOS 7 but lots to like and speed reduction was not significant in my opinion and you may see an increase as a newly formatted device always seems speedier (at least to me)

Aside from the fact that I like iOS7 more than most here, it runs very well on the iPad 3.

In fact, when turning it on, the icons "fly" into place a little smoother, to my eye, than the iPhone 5s. That shouldn't be the case, but it is from my data point.

I've got a $200 Target gift card begging to be spent, but I think I'll pass on the iPad Air until it gets touch ID. The 3 may not fair so well with iOS8, whenever that is, but it's a pleasure to use with 7.

I don't know anything about the previous mini, as mine is the miniR.

Thanks, everyone.

We are installing iOS7 now.

These are the only devices running iOS6, so there is some 'speed' from consistency with everyone's iPhones.

What were the new security enhancements in iOS 7.

The most critical is that you cannot turn off 'find my iPad' without knowing the security password.

iOS7 devices can be made essentially useless for thieves if the owners shut them off.

The New York Police Department famously launched an 'upgrade your iOS device' campaign because iOS7 helped them deal with thefts.

I installed it on my old iPad 3 just before giving it to my mom - I've heard no complaints regarding performance from her.

I do have iOS 7 installed on my iPhone 4S - no performance issues there.

It is what it is.

Sekker,

My only issue with iOS 7 on my "new" ipad aka ipad 3 is battery life. It's not as good under iOS 7. Same goes for my IPhone 4S under iOS 7. Battery life isn't as good. This is despite tweaking both devices to reasonably maximize power savings. Could do a bit more tweaking but it would be at the cost of some performance and convenience. Not with what little additional battery life I'd gain from it.
