Lovely day today that started at 5 am

Oh, what a beautiful morning it was for a one-mile walk in 22 degree weather, especially given my somewhat reduced conditions of late. The clutch cable went on the VW on Thursday, necessitating a trip to rent a car for a bit and foreshortening the decision-making process in getting something more reliable.

So, off we went this morning, taking a long walk down empty, dark lanes to catch a one-hour bus ride out of this one-and-a-half horse burg and make a subsequent connection to a train, and thence another bus, in order to make a pre-set appointment back in the old stomping grounds and rent a car across the street.

I thought my heart was going to break a few ribs from the inside out by the time we got to the stop, and my legs were like spaghetti. Imagine our surprise, not knowing anything about routes out here, when the bus made a stop near a correctional facility and filled up with loud, abusive, unruly convicts out on work release. Oh, joy.

Thence to the regional rail center, full of poor unfortunates (unlike the guy on the bus I overheard bragging that his restitution amount was $200K) who had obviously spent the night camped both inside and outside the station. We stayed out on the platform and waited for the train, which took us to yet another transit hub, not so full of fauna as the previous one, but equally dingy, where we got on another bus to go to said unbreakable appointment and then rent wheels.

We got upgraded twice on the rental, through no effort of our own (the first was clown-car sized, the second had a flat), and took off for the bank, to get the paperwork. The paperwork, of course, was messed up, and the officer at our usual branch couldn't sign off on it. So now we go elsewhere, to another branch in the wrong direction, seeking corrected paperwork and the signature of a bank official senior enough to endorse it. Fortunately, the bank has long Saturday hours, but that also meant that we were playing beat the clock in order to get this taken care of today — having seen a model that was attractively priced, and with the Jetta lame for the nonce, we were well motivated. The branch, of course, is hiding in plain sight in a strip mall in an area that we're unfamiliar with. More time wasted.

Flash forward, to the dealership, 2:20 pm. At this point, we've been up nine hours and twenty minutes, and spent the day running. Target vehicle is still there, though, miraculously enough, despite being priced almost $6,000 below Kelly Blue Book value and having only 13K miles on it. Nothing is wrong with the test drive, but we're in a holding pattern to do the paperwork with our guy, this being a Saturday and everyone kicking tires and buying.

Of course, we got the deal done, and just in time. I'm going on nineteen hours at this point, but the new wheels is here and the old ones are going to the doc-doc for some TLC.

Personally, I think it looks almost Mac-like. Well, either that, or like an Imperial Stormtrooper Autobot. The dealership is really cool, only does creampuff high-end used that go through a super-rigorous inspection process, and has a totally no-pressure, no-BS sales force.

I mean, look at these prices: [www.carsense.com] Very little there sells for Blue Book value, almost all of it is substantially way, way less. Sorry if it seems like spam, but this was a very cool way to do business.

I'm glad you have new wheels now, despite the trauma of getting there.
Enjoy-- the car looks very elegant!

Gotta be at the dealer. I would think that if he had a garage like that he would have fixed the clutch instead of taking a bus to go rent a car.

BTW- Did you know that Enterprise will pick you up and take you to the rental car place?

New truck looks great though. I rented one of those for a trip a few months ago. They are very nice.

Some here would say the clown car option would suit you to a tee.

Me? I say only Styles would take a simple story about buying a car and twist it into a tortured Joycian epic. Just another day in the life of King of Prussia's favorite drama queen, I guess.

Sweet car Furious. Looks pristine. Car shopping can be exhausting, but if done right, quite rewarding. Looks like you came home with a nice one.

Please don't ruin macs for me :-)

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

Hey dumbass, you could have ignored him just like you should ignore this. If you ever want it to abate, stop the invitations.

Existence, Roger, isn't an invitation, and I'm not a "dumbass," even in your crooked estimation.

those shop lights are primarily a body inspection tool. floor is too clean for spray, and lighting up a fener to see under the car doesn't help much.

Next conclusion?

Wax On/Wax Off enthusiast. As a kid from 12 - 15, I used to tag local realtors and doctors $45 a car (and this was 30 years ago). Most places still charge that or not much more NOW.

And I had rigged cheap shop lights for the same purpose inside the parents hugely oversized garage.

Wittle fusty is presenting again, offering way too much low hanging fruit in one post.
Prance, bray, present, repeat. Yawn.

If I were, I wouldn't want someone as desperate as No-Sex-Tonite, that's for sure.

Anyway, you answered my question. Makes sense; I figured @#$%& for being submissive, despite the blustering stalking he does in public.

Don't see how I come off as desperate, but whatever. You were the one who broached the topic, remember?

Oh, wait. I just remembered what a dumbass you are -- one not worth responding to. Pretend I ignored you, OK?

Typical No-Sex-Tonite--when he's beaten, he tries to bluster his way out of it.

At least @#$%& just shuts up. Not that that's much better, but still. Better that he doesn't even open his mouth to begin with.

You have a VERY high opinion of yourself, elmo. Too bad it's shared by NOBODY here.

My, no wonder you're pitcher. You have quite a high opinion of yourself, No-Sex-Tonite.

As for beaten....why don't you let the reader decide?
