CCC question, por favor...

OK, I have an iMac G3 400 DV that we are going to give to my brother for email, etc. In other words, no heavy lifting. It is operating with OS 9.2.2 and I would like to install Tiger but it has just the 13GB HD and only 256MB RAM so I thought I might just clone 10.2 or 10.3 to it just to get it to OS 10. I have 10.2.9 on an external that I can run a computer off of in a pinch. Can I just use CCC to install that on the iMac and what procedure might i use? I have already loaded the firmware update on the iMac. TIA. Oh, yeah, AAARRRGGHH!

Plug the external drive into the iMac, and fw target the iMac to another Mac. Then use CCC or SuperDuper or other to clone the external to the iMac.

Remain calm...
Do as Blusubaru says...

You already did the MOST important part by updating the firmware..
You'll be fine.

You say target the iMac to another Mac. Shouldn't I target the external? Why would I need another Mac?

Because, the iMac that will receive the new OS cannot be the startup mac. The external drive cannot be the startup drive on the iMac that is receiving the transplant. Another Mac needs to be overseeing/all knowing what is going on and the recipient be merely a data drive that is not integral to the OS of the computer.

I think I got that right.

Well, I'm still a bit confused. So I don't need the external at all; I can just connect the iMac to a newer Mac via Firewire and clone from there, right? Do I activate CCC from the iMac or activate the newer Mac and clone to the iMac?
