HELP. Father's Hanns-g LCD setup problem

OK, I purchased the Hanns-G $99 (AR) LCD monitor from PC Connection for my 75-yo father. I had it shipped directly to him since I anticipated an easy plug and play install. He hooked it up OK, but it is not working as anticipated. His description of the problem is that the desktop is displayed and he can use his system, but the screen continuously flashes an error message, "no input signal" or "signal not found". I am not sure if he loses the desktop or if it flashes over top the desktop image.

He has a G4 - 466 DA and he is only using the VGA connection--perhaps he needs to "turn off" the DVI connection?? I'm just stumped. I've never seen one of these monitors and he is 500 miles away, so it is a little hard to trouble shoot. Since several folks bought these, I was hoping someone may have seen this behavior and has a quick fix. Thanks!

Does he have the system set to sleep rather quickly? You can get that message when the machine goes to sleep and stops sending a signal to the monitor.

Loose wire or display going to sleep. I was having the same problem with my wife's iBook yesterday. The display was going to sleep to soon.

EDIT: Never mind. What they said.

What happens if he wiggles the connection plugs?

He may have his monitor set to sleep after one minute or so. In that case he will probably get that message for a few seconds. The setting is under the energy saver control panel. Also make sure he has the proper resolution, color depth, and refresh rate set. I think my LCD liked to be refreshed at 60Hz.

Fixed. Dad's old monitor was set at 1152x870--the LCD didn't like that. Switched to 1280x1024 and all seems OK.

Same thing happened to me when I first plugged it in, and switching to 1280x1024 took care of it. What I thought was neat (and unexpected) was that there was an HC194D display driver available in Tiger.
