What's the best way to get maximum battery life on a Powerbook?

I've got to fly across the country to MacWorld tomorrow. My Powerbook just being on goes from 100% to 60% in about a half an hour. I want to be able to watch a DVD or two on the flight to pass the time but don't think the battery will make it.

I have ripped a couple of DVDs and put them on the hard drive. I figure this will use less power than an actual DVD. Since I have a second Powerbook I'm going to pack it's fully charged battery as well.

Are there other things I can do? If I turn off Airport and Bluetooth will that help?

Can't hurt.

Put the screen brightness as low as you can tolerate.

You should be able to get through one DVD, I am doubtful that you can get through two.

Dimming the lights will help. I've read somewhere that switching from millions of color to thousands would help too, but I can't confirm that.

Definitely turned off everything that you are not using... airport, bluetooth.

This won't help for your current flight, but it seems you need a new battery. There's no way your battery should drop that quickly if it wasn't getting old or had other problems.

Also, most of the new PBs have a hibernation function, which allows you to switch batteries without shutting down the PB.

You can pick up a good used PB battery on Ebay for $40-$60.

BB is right, but skip the used batt detail -- while you're at MWSF go see Larry's booth and grab a hi-cap battery. You will wonder how you _ever_ lived without it.
