Are you asking about humidifiers, or air filters? The one you name is not a humidifier.

By coincidence I just bought this item tonight (perhaps not the exact model you refer to - it was ~$20 at my local Target). So far so good. It's not exactly whisper quiet, but it's not obnoxiously loud. Actually, it reminds me of the fan on my old PM 7500. My cat (yeah, she's why i got it) looked at the unit with suspicion once i turned it on but since then has entirely ignored it. The eau de cat has been greatly reduced even after just a few hours of use, which is the point.

You're right it's an air filter. We just need one to filter some airborned allergens in our bedrooms and living room. We are considering of purchasing one that larger than this one.
