Sim card question.
Posted by: testcase
Date: June 11, 2014 01:03PM
I'd like to make a clone of a SIM card. Is it as simple as using a USB card reader, copying the data to the desktop or other memory card or, are there pitfalls I need to watch for? TIA!

Copy data from a SIM card or actually clone the SIM? The former should work with a SIM card reader, but I haven't needed one in years. What data are you trying to transfer? Where did the SIM come from?

1Sale has an iPad Mini, 64GB w/cellular for $399. I have Verizon JetPack. I'd like to be able to switch between the JetPack & iPad Mini without having to physically swap the SIM card. I know NOT to have both devices active on the one account at the same time.

I realize I can add the Mini as one of the 10 devices I'm allowed on the JetPack. Having the Mini with a SIM would simply be easier for me.

Literally clone the SIM? Hmm, I honestly don't know enough regarding the legalities in the USA. I know some carriers in other countries provide a multi SIM option for such use. For a fee of course. I'd love that option here. Just read about a company wanting to make an accessory that contains the SIM for identification and can be paired to any compatible device in proximity.

They were specifically designed not to be cloned. No, you can't really do it. I suggest you find a T-mobile SIM and take advantage of their free data plan.

I believe the only information you can copy from SIM to SIM would be phone numbers (from your address book) and text messages (if they were stored on the SIM).

Cell provider data (what gives you access to a provider's network) cannot be moved from SIM to SIM from what I understand.
