Parallels and XP

So I've got Parallels and loaded XP Pro SP2. Have a couple of small issues but the biggest one is I'm trying to install Photoshop CS2 and it keeps stopping and telling me I don't have enough RAM, says I need at least 384. I went to System and set the virtual memory for minimum of 512 and max of 1 gig but even after restarting the General tab shows just 256. I've done this a couple of times and it keeps showing 256. Where do I change that?

do you have the latest version of Parallels installed?
check versiontracker for the d/l link, not the Parallels site.

You may have done this...but make sure XP is not running at all...set the RAM to what you want...then make sure to click the "Save" button to apply the changes. Fire up XP again, and it should recognize the change and let you install.

....if you need the latest version of Parallels...just go to their site (or Help menu...'Check for update') and download whatever version they are offering - that will always be the latest build (and sometimes offer a beta build too) - it will install right over nad you don't have to worry about entering your activation information again.

I got it. I just had to change it in the Parallels Configuration and Resources pane. Wasn't a Windows thing at all. Not used to the Dark Side... Thanx for the help.

Hi,

Parallels Desktop update fixes RAM issues
[www.macworld.com]
By Peter Cohen

Parallels on Thursday announced the release of a new Update Release Candidate (RC2) for Parallels Desktop, their virtualization software that lets Intel-based Mac users run Windows right alongside Mac OS X without having to reboot first. It’s available for download now.

The new version of Parallels Desktop corrects an issue that prevented previous builds from running on Mac Pro systems and Intel Core 2 Duo-equipped Macs with more than 2GB of RAM. This new version supports up to 16GB of RAM thanks to utility that helps users configure the software.

Best Wishes,

Mitch
