Eric Clapton rethinks playing 'Cocaine'

"Eric Clapton is playing "Cocaine" in concert again. ..."

[news.yahoo.com]

Interesting - as it was always held that the song, regardless of J.J Cale's intent, was an influence causing many to partake back in it's heyday.

By j. j. cale

If you wanna hang out youve got to take her out; cocaine.
If you wanna get down, down on the ground; cocaine.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; cocaine.

If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues; cocaine.
When your day is done and you wanna run; cocaine.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; cocaine.

If your thing is gone and you wanna ride on; cocaine.
Dont forget this fact, you cant get it back; cocaine.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; cocaine.

She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; cocaine.

Lame...
"Clapton's band shouts out "dirty cocaine" during the song."

Publicity stunt...
"His duet CD with Cale (Cocaine written by Cale), "The Road to Escondido," is scheduled for release Nov. 7."

Nope. That was John Cale.

I can't even guess how many men I have shot just to watch them die, and all because of a song.

...and we could have had a normal house...but nooooo...we're stuck with this silly pastel submarine.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

What about Jackson Browne?

It takes a clear mind...

It takes a clear mind to take it? Or a clear mind not to take it?

It takes a clear mind to make it!!!!

I hate that song. That said, I firmly believe that Clapton was relevant when he was a junky. After he cleaned up, he lost his edge.

We had a Talent show at High School, during school hours, in '81 and a band played "Cocaine" bet you couldn't do that today.

To make it relevant to his current audience, he could change it to "Rogaine."
