It's totally fine; it's just playing you-know-what.

I think playing dead only works if you're really really ugly to begin with.

Opossum "playing 'possum". Looks like a young 'un.
'Possums have the most teeth of any North American mammal--50.
That's a lot of dentition.

The ones around here must not be bright enough to play 'Possum".
When I come across one, they just stand there looking at me. (I like for animals to run in fear :-) )
Not the brightest of creations, they have large litters to compensate for loss rate.

I've had to help them out of the pool. They fall in, can't figure out how to get back out.
Many succumb to 'deer in headlights' termination.

They tend to fall over and play dead here if Jet totally surprises him in a full on bark and charge "attack". Last night he knew it was out there and when I opened the door he was after it like a frieght train. If they see him coming, as he does this, they'll try to waddle away, and then just hunker up against and tree or something, though he has treed them before too. When he sees them do this drooling dead act even he seems disgusted by them - bleh!
