I think it's a very popular alternative, but only with the geeky set. Everyone still Googles, and if they want to try an alternate, they use Yahoo or Bing.

When Google doesn't get me the information I'm looking for, I've had success with DuckDuckGo.

I recommend DuckDuckGo because it ranks my website higher for my target keyword than Google does. ;)

I've been trying it out and no complaints so far.

I tried DDG for a while (because it claimed it avoided advertisements), but found it wasn't as good at finding stuff as the majors (Google, Bing, Yahoo), and its maniacal scrolling down was annoying. Mostly I use Bing these days; not that I like MS, but I like Google even less.

I've been trying GGD for awhile, the interface is different from Google and takes some getting use to, still undecided.

I switch back and forth between Google and DuckDuckGo. I think the former is actually more accurate with many searches, but sometimes Google gets stuck on stupid and auto corrects my search terms without letting me pick the "yes, I actually f*@cking meant what I typed" option. DuckDuckGo is pretty solid overall and for a while I stopped using Google search altogether, but I'm back to alternating.

I like Startpage, which incorporates Google results. Their sister site, Ixquick, omits the Google results.

When I'm not satisfied with those results, I go directly to Google, and Bing. I find the latter discovers stuff that Google doesn't, or doesn't rank within the first 10 pages or so.

I avoid Google, if nothing else, but to cut down on spam. DDG works fine for me.

Mine as well, doesn't mean I don't have to use alternatives from time to time.

Years ago I used Dogpile, which was said to draw on all the other search engines. I just checked; it still exists. Anyone use it now?

Duckduckgo is my duckduckgo-to search engine. Occasionally i'll have to revert to the Googs if i need something really obscure or complex, but that's just once or twice a month.

Well at least you noticed. How was it for you?

The one option not in Startpage versus ixQuick is Power Refinement. I really like how ixQuick reduces or eliminates overlapping or duplicate results.
