A thin, rigid case seems to be the way to go for the iPhone 6 and 6+.
This.
I carried my 3Gs naked (the 'Phone, not me) for a short time, but it felts slippery. I put an InvisibleShield on the back, and it was a major improvement. Also, it was wider at the edges.
I don't need anything "grippy" like the silicon cases that drag against the inside of a pocket. The back of the 6-series is super smooth. The edges are very thin and theirs little surface area pressing against your fingers and had compared to the 4-5s 'Phones. When I relaxed my hand even slightly the 'Phone started to slide out. A death grip isn't required, but unless you hold it horizontal, you risk dropping it.
Even the poly cases of the 5C (very attractive in person) as smooth as they are, aren't slippery compared to the 6. Oh, and they had a row of 5Cs paired with color matched Beats headphones. It was a nice looking display. If I could clone my ESN to several 'Phones, I'd definitely have a couple of 5Cs.
And while it wasn't tight in my pants pocket (iPhone on the left and dress on the right) it pushed into my pelvis slightly when my thigh was horizontal as if sitting down. That wouldn't be a problem in formal wear though it would ruin the line of my suit. I might have to find some cargo pants.
Anyway… I got the bug to see one out of my system. I was fully prepared to feel that the larger size compromised the handling and functionality, but it's not the case. I didn't see a 6P on display, but I didn't look hard. It would certainly be too big for my use.
When my contract is up, the 6s-series should be shipping, so that's when I'll make my move. There should be at least one hardware tweak and some speed bumps (?) in that line.
