Stackable Washer/Dryer (or the all in one)
Posted by: Rain

Anyone using these?
Opinions?

What to avoid?

Yes, I know its the latest trend and prices are inflated for stackables, but with the tiny laundry room(more of a hallway) we have, it might be all that will fit.

Thanks and sorry if this has been beat to death already

One thing about the all-in-one...
If one part breaks, do you have to replace the whole thing?

Have not even researched the all-in-ones. But figured someone would bring them up if I didn't.

More than likely we will go with a stackable from Home Depot, fyi. Going to do some "reviews" searching later this week.

we had a stacked Maytag that served us well for 20 years or so.
We bought another "Maytag" product to replace our gas range when it died coz GE makes dogs except their expensive line which they don't manufacture.
The new range works well, but it is very poorly built Suffice to say, glad I paid the extra $1000 for 5 yrs free service. P&L thus far (4 years) more then the cost of the original piece.
Our new w/d are separates by Kenmore (rebadged Whirlpool or LG, who knows). Beasts!

If Whirly makes a stached, that's where I'd start.

do not get an all-in-one....if one part of it breaks, you're screwed. They're also not as efficient...

I got a fridgidaire (kenmore?) 2 years ago and they've been great...got a great deal too at Lowe's with 10% off the sale price, plus an extra 100 because they scratched it when they delivered it...

I have a "stacked" Whirlpool unit that came with the house I bought. I say "stacked" because it's two components (top load washer on bottom, front load dryer on top), but they are not separate-able, like some components that can either be side-by-side or stacked units (they share a common control panel). Anyway, they've worked fine for me, who admittedly only does about 3 loads of laundry a week. I thought that capacity would be an issue, but so far they've been fine (some of the stackable front-load washers & dryers I looked at at Sears/Lowes/Best Buy had just tiny-looking washer drums and doors).

Anyway, helps a ton from a space-saving standpoint. The appliance doesn't "walk" around the laundry room like my old washer used to (probably since it has the added weight of a dryer on top), and since my old appliances were harvest-gold 20+ year old Kenmores that I replaced parts on, as long as you don't get to fancy with the electronic controls, you probably won't have to worry about one part killing the whole unit for years to come.

We've had a Kenmore unit for 5 years in our second floor walk in closet. It has been ideal for our situation. Dryer on top and top load washer on bottom in one unit. Very compact and convenient.

yes, my grandmother just got one of those stacked single pieces - in her bedroom closet now.
Excellent unit! same capacity as my stand alone pieces!
