Dear mint.com
I was skeptical at the beginning about giving you access to my financial account. After reading some positive articles about you in major newspapers, I decided to let you peak at my bank, credit cards, investment and real estate accounts. I gave you access to all my accounts.
You tried to do a good job, but most often than not you forgot the password and I had to hold your hand to walk you through the process again. That got boring after a while. Just for the kicks, I made a second mint account and gave you access to the same accounts. Sometimes you forgot my Bank of America password on the first account, but it works just fine on the second account. Sometimes it was the other way around. same thing with Citibank, ING, etc. There was no pattern. Your password memory was just messed up.
OK, I made my best to give the password each time you forgot it. I did that for both accounts. I opened one account in FireFox, one in Safari, side by side. I got different info, even though you had access to the exact same accounts. Sometimes you showed me going broke, sometimes getting rich. Transfer between accounts were mislabeled. I tried to go through and manually link transfers and that seemed to help. I started to add small amounts to my transfers, for example instead of making two transfers of $1000 each, I made one of $999.99 this week and one of $1000.01 next week. that helped me better match these transfers, but you didn't seem to get a clue.
Anyway, after using you for about 5 years, it's time to say Good Bye.
I have an Yodlee account which I have not used much, but it's time to look into it and see if it works better than mint.
And I promised to test a bunch of financial apps several years ago, and for one reason or another I never finished that task. For this, I apologize to the Forum. I won't make the same promise, but I think I will try it again sometime in March. Jan and Feb are too busy for me to take on such a project, but if things work out fine, Spring should be a little more quiet and I might try this project (but I will not make a promise this time).
