If they could do it without creating (and killing) malformed clones in the process, I'd have no ethical objection.

It could be a very comforting thing to someone suffering from a loss and I doubt that it would ever make a statistical difference in the adopted cat population.

This reminds me of the last series of Alien whereas there were several malformed Lt. Rippleys.

Kind of nuts when so many adoptable animals are being killed. If even a couple people do this who might otherwise have adopted, it's a bad thing. But the kind of people with the money to clone a pet would probably throw their money at breeders rather than adopt, so they'd be contributing to pet overpopulation regardless.

I've lost pets that I miss terribly, so I understand the temptation. If I could get a couple of my cats back, with the same personalities, and I had money to burn, I guess I'd be at least a little tempted. But I don't think that I could square it with my conscience.

What a coincidence! I just got the phone with my aunt. She was telling me about a good friend of hers who is having an extremely hard time letting go off her 17 year old dog, who has been suffering all sorts of old age ailments. He has been with her since he was a pup. He has been with her through thick and thin. She cries her eye balls out every time her head and her heart gets into the tug-o-war to make the right decision. I told my aunt to kindly persuade her that it's time to do what is best for the dog. If she could afford it she probably have her doggie cloned as well.

It just wouldn't be the same. No way. Might look the same, but there are too many environmental influences to consider.

Don't people know that clones are always evil? CBS demonstrated that years ago in one of their magnificent made-for-TV movies.
