The book was written before To Kill a Mockingbird but is effectively a sequel since events occur later.

We all read and saw the prequel without ever knowing it!

Pretty remarkable to see that, having grown up in Alabama. Every once in a while you'd hear about a "Harper Lee sighting" at a restaurant or grocery store somewhere, but almost nobody outside her family and a few friends ever actually spoke to her (one of Auburn's former football coaches was an amusing exception a few years ago).

Hope it's worth the wait.

It'll be worth the wait. Minimally as an intriguing curiosity regarding the fundamental nature of this beloved writer. Kinda like seeing Picasso's early sketches. Her sister, her protector all of these years passed away last year which makes some people a bit skeptical of the timing. Here's the rundown, which I think is fair, however it's impossible for me to be disappointed. I love the Southern writing aesthetic (Flannery, Eudora etc.).

Having read about the prequel now, it was written before TKM and the main character was Scout as an adult who looked back at her childhood in a few chapters. However a publisher suggested she expand on those flashbacks and that became TKM.

I'm sure it will be good as I don't see Harper Lee earning her image by releasing a bad book after all these years. Still, how will it measure up to her iconic work?, how could it ever measure up?

Sounds like things have been rocky for her and her sister the last few years. Her sister, Alice Lee, died last November at 104. She'd been handling Harper Lee's business affairs up until she was 100. Seems suspicious that 3 months after Alice Lee's death a manuscript lost for 60+ years suddenly appears.

Are you saying you hadn't read it yet when you taught it?

Poor old Harper Lee. She's been rumored to have had her book written by Truman Capote, then rumored to be a recluse afraid to try to write any more, and now she's being rumored to having become totally lost without her 102 year old sister to protect her. People may love her book but they also seem to love thinking of her as a pathetic mess.
