No! Grew up in the now-demolished West End, Boston with great stories of that neighborhood.

How sad.

He was one of the few Hollywood personalities whom I respected.

He directed the two best Star trek movies, and co-wrote and executive produced the third best film in the series.

He will be missed, as will Spock.

About 20 years ago I visited Boston and went to the science museum there. Went to the IMAX theatre inside, and saw a film on Antarctica I believe.

The introduction to all of the IMAX movies there has a voiceover by Leonard Nimoy, since he grew up 3 blocks from the museum.

This is a poor quality recording, but I hope you all enjoy it nonetheless.

Yes, Spock is now truly dead.

Leonard Nimoy was a good fellow. I've seen some interviews and discussions with him, and he was always intelligent, humorous, and humane.

Here he describes how he arrived at the Vulcan greeting, a symbol he witnessed as a child at an Orthodox Jewish service:

Shalom, Spock.

My wife contacted me this morning with the news. Very sad as he is a character from my childhood that I have always enjoyed.

He did a very funny video to the song The Lazy Song. The comedy might be a poor match with the sad news but it is worth a watch when the time is right. [www.youtube.com]

Captain James T Kirk
[eulogizing Spock] We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.

Both my wife and I shared a moment of silence for his passing...oh, and my sig refers to Nimoy in a major way....both as a character and a person.

All I ever really needed to know, I learned from watching Star Trek.

I used to see him occasionally on the UCLA campus in the '70's. He took a Fine Arts Photography class from a colleague of mine.

Very sad news. Spock was by far my favorite character in the original series. Much more recently, I enjoyed his voice-only appearance on The Big Bang Theory, in which he was the voice of Sheldon's Spock action figure.

Sorry to see him pass away.
Last night on Me Tv they showed an episode of Perry Mason with Leonard Nimoy as the killer. 1956, 59 years ago. Very long career.

Ugh. Woke to this news (missed it yesterday).

This man brought joy to many households, including mine; and though his most famous role is the one for which he will likely be missed the most, his many other roles pay tribute to a career that just wouldn't quit.

MeTV is doing a tribute this weekend:

[metvnetwork.com]
[my.chicagotribune.com]

... hopefully you all can find MeTV in your local viewing area.

He'd had so many roles that you might have forgotten some of them. For example, he was in both the original and remade "Outer Limits", in the latter playing a jaded defense attorney ("I, Robot", that particular episode directed by his son Adam), and also in the remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", playing a psychiatrist. An incredibly adaptable and versatile actor, for sure.

A fine man, actor, and director. Will be greatly missed.

Last night on Me Tv they showed an episode of Perry Mason with Leonard Nimoy as the killer.

I would have like to have seen that.

I saw the episode when it originally aired. I was a big Raymond Burr and Perry Mason fan, even though he played a bad guy several times.

So Nimoy plays a bad guy in Perry Mason and Fringe. Sort of full circle.

Nimoy's Spock is an iconic character and his most known role. It was good to know that he was even more than that.

RIP, Mr. Nimoy.
