Thinking of Joining a Bowling League

So I went bowling with friends on Saturday and its sparked some interest in joining a bowling league. I have my own balls, have my own shoes and I am a pretty poor player (average about 110), but I enjoy it. I used to bowl a lot more years ago, but kind of wained off. When I visit Orlando, I stay at Cabana Bay because they have a bowling alley in the hotel. I think a league will keep me disciplined in terms of leaving the house to go out and bowl. My only concern is that I pretty much suck, and I dont want to be the main component in the team losing.

Most leagues use a handicap system - as you get better, you will actually help your team by beating your handicap! Over time, that will of course increase.

Thats good to know. I dont have a lot of friends where I live, and I dont get out of the house much other than work, so I figured this would be a good way to tackle that issue as well. A few years ago the one bowling center had 25 cent games on Mondays. Couldnt beat a deal like that.

Since all our facilities have to be smoke free, bowling is just not the same without the smoke so thick it is like fog. Seriously, I quit league bowling because I couldn't take the smoke and was surprised how pleasant it was without all the second hand smoke. So I say go for it--just make sure if it is the type of league that has "loser buys" frames or a strike kitty, to find team mates that are equal or less skilled than you.

I do prefer a dark, dank bowling alley - they opened up onbe of these fancy bowlign eateries near here. Place gets lousy reviews.

I have always found bowling very theraputic; imaging the head of a person that I loathe down at the end of the alley did wonders...

This.... You will get better with time and practice. I was forced into a league and now enjoy the time off just hanging with the guys/gals

League bowling is fun.
I am competitive, but we keep it fun. we cheer when we do well, and laugh an moan at each other when we are not so good. Just enjoy.

Several years ago, the owner of our local lanes, made me his permanent sub for him in his men's league, as his other business interest was taking more time than expected. I had a big ego boost, bowling for the owner, glad he thought enough of me to do that. I guess bowling in the same place for 30+ years does get you something.

been bowling in a league for 21 years, and can say it is the best therapy I have. After a hard day, imaging certain faces on the head pin, and trying to clip the left ear works wonders for the mood.

Hanidcap leagues will love to have you, you are an entire 2nd bowler, with a 110 average. Don't let the money grubbers get to you, it s supposed to be fun, so make sure YOU do so.

I'm definitely going to do it...have to work on my technique for sure. I tend to launch the ball and it lands about half way down the lane.
