As to the watch... looks like it doesn't have as much in the way of stand-alone capability as folks here were musing.

From $10,000

Edit to add that 10 large is the starting price.

Glad I don't like gold watches.

Yup. Not sure why people don't think these will sell. Sold out in days. Waaaaaaaaay to many people with tons of money and nothing to spend it on so now they do.

10K is chump change. its a trip to the bahamas for the 30th weekend in a row. Its a new sofa. Its a new piece of art over the fireplace. blah, blah.

I like the Edition.

Subtle bling, no Bling!

Anybody remember when people thought gold nugget watches were good looking? Bling Gauche.

Starting price is totally reasonable for a watch in this class. And that class isn't for everybody.

I can't wait to see the price of the bands.

I'm not sure if I want to stick with a 13" 'Book, or try the new 12". I *wiil* hit the local neighborhood Apple Store. I'm really curious about the keyboard. I like that the keys are wider. The shallow travel might take a bit to get used to.

Either way, it's a new book for me.

And I'm lusting after a Watch.

Apple completely lost me with this watch event. I'm sure live video fed garage door owners, weekly flyers/hotels guests, whole food shoppers, bling enthusiasts and people with very narrow fingertips might find this useful, but not me.

The Ive videos about aluminum and steel made me wanna gag.

It's funny that the term "solid gold" means 75%.

Quote

18K gold contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 75% gold.

It's funny that the term "solid gold" means 75%.

Not in an industry where there's 18K gold, 24K gold, and gold-fill.

A 100% gold. gold case? Way too malleable.

I'm not arguing or saying 18K isn't ideal in its hardness.

but "solid gold" seems misleading.

if you sell me a "solid chocolate" rabbit, I want it to be solid, 100% chocolate. no filler and not hollow.

but, yeah. semantics.

This is a point I missed. For the first time in a long time, the new trackpad and keyboard give something worth stopping into an Apple Store to check out.

That big crowd with the umbrellas are waiting to buy the cheapest watch. The woman walking away from the store entrance on the left in the gold outfit just bought the 18 caret model. If you squint just right, you can see that it is max about to enter the store. I hope he takes some more great pics.

but, yeah. semantics.

It's not so much semantics as it is lexicon.

It's a difference in industry standard and outside perspective.

In point of fact, the Watch *is* solid gold, and not a hollow superstructure, compared to the hollow bunny.

I think it's misleading that chocolate bunnies aren't labeled as hollow, and shouldn't even be allowed to be sold.

Most of the hollow chocolate bunnies are made of such inferior waxy chocolate they should not be allowed to be called "chocolate" bunnies. They should be called "hollow brown Easter basket fillers, for display only."

Random thoughts--

That picture of the crowd in front of the store is scary. I don't think capitalism is inherently evil, but it looks like the crowd is worshiping at the temple of Jobs.

It's just like Apple/Ive to design a machine with only one USB port, when two would have made it much more functional. For all the talk of design and elegance, his products can be clunky when in use. Dongles and adapters are not elegant in any way, shape, or form.

And...yet another MB model line in the mix...what happened to the simple product matrix that Jobs so proudly showed off? If the MBr had been some sort of convertible or hybrid, I can see more of a point, but it's really just a sleeker, slightly crippled Air with a nicer screen.

I'm curious about the Watch, but wait for v2.0.

I'm curious about the Stainless Steel band.

How is it adjusted? It looks like there could be some adjustment in the bracelet latch itself.

Apple has really done a nice job with the bands.

At least you'll be able to upgrade later instead of having to buy the band of choice at the time you buy the watch.

It looks like the black Watch (the watch not the pipers) is only available with the black metal band.

That's $1100. I'd prefer to start with a cheaper band and upgrade later.

The Stainless can be had for $600 with the Sport band, and the Steel band could be had later.

My real gripe is that these can't be had from Adorama or B&H.

I'm curious about the Watch, but wait for v2.0.

They could have easily put another reversible USB3 port on the other side.

What if your battery is low, but you still want to keep working, but need to access files on an external drive? No can do without a docking station, since I'm not sure a reversible USB 3 hub exists.

The effective resolution is actually lower on this than the rMBP, not even looking at the MBP Air. 2304x1440 (1152x720 effective) vs. 2560x1600 (1280x800 effective) vs 144x900 (MB Air)

I'm not sure how this will fit into their product line, it seems, like was mentioned, that Apple's product line is becoming too varied, like it was in the old days when Apple tanked. It makes me wonder if Jobs were still here, would he have killed the Air line and replaced it with this Macbook? This Macbook essentially is an updated version of the air, heck, it's even lighter than the Air.

I'm surprised to see that the non-retina 13 MBP is still around, I would have thought that they'd kill that off as well, seeing that it hasn't been updated in years.

Most of the hollow chocolate bunnies are made of such inferior waxy chocolate they should not be allowed to be called "chocolate" bunnies. They should be called "hollow brown Easter basket fillers, for display only."

Hey now. Be careful, or you'll be accused of being a chocolate snob.

Were you expecting that product discontinuation announcements would be part of today's agenda? Doesn't normally work that way...

Sure it does, a new product gets announced and the old product (or products, like the iPod Classic) disappears from the web site. Just look at the 17" Macbook Pro, when the retina Macbook Pro was unveiled the 17" disappeared.

The Stainless can be had for $600 with the Sport band, and the Steel band could be had later.

I wanted the sport band since I will use it while running. I want stainless because it looks nicer. But I was hoping for a sub $500 price. Close. I may have to think about it more.

Nah. I'm such a watch geek that I will have to get one.

Maybe third-party stainless bands will appear in the future.
