Is a blue and white clamshell iBook of any use or value?
Posted by: JEBB

I found mine in a back closet. It has 576MB RAM and a 37GB HD. The battery is dead and I've reformatted the HD and installed Mac OS 9.1. Are these of any use or value?

Play old Mac games like Hellcats Over the Pacific. You can find quite a few awesome OS 9 games on the interweb for free.

An interesting wall-decoration?

Maybe a clock.

I recall wanting a green or possibly an indigo iBook. I ended up getting a green iMac instead but only had it for 9 months as I couldn't live without the mobility of a PB.

And ah! I remember when I sent Leader several emails right after the iMacs came out, suggesting, nay, begging him to make a laptop in the same theme. You all can thank me for the ToiletSeatBook revolution.

But seriously...they were kind of cool. I agree, put some fun games on it and enjoy.

I have an original Blueberry iBook. Got it for my daughter when she was in college, replacing a buggy G3 AIO. Very rugged, great for toting around. I don't have a use for it at the moment. Not wireless, as I recall.

iTunes, video conversion w/my first gen eyetv, office docs, older games. They're great to type on. No modern OS distractions, and they're fanless, so no noise.

I've often considered buying a 90s era Performa or PowerMac so I could play the original X-WING and TIE FIGHTER games again (I have the original CDs, as well as a CD with my pilot files). The downside is that I sold my ADB-plug Flightstick ages ago.

Both games are available (PC Only) from GOG.com these days, but I'm still PC-less and am not willing to Boot Camp my work/production Mac.

I have a Performa 5200CD that is yours for the asking. I haven't tried to boot it for quite a while though. smiling smiley

I should see what sorts of beige pre-G3 Mac hardware I can get out of my attic, too.

Running OS9 and pre-Intel-only OS X.

They're great in-the-field machines. Basically indestructible.
