Car mount for iPhone?

Normally I tuck my iPhone into a compartment in my car but that is very inconvenient. I'm considering some sort of mount. I'd prefer not to glue anything to my dash. I drive a 2007 solara convertible which isn't huge. Maybe I could use one that clips into a fan duct? Any suggestions?

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

I have a mount that snaps onto an air vent, but I don't remember the brand. It's from a major holder-manufacturer.

There is another version that was mentioned here that I liked. Maybe someone will post it again.

That CD mount holder is cool.
Do you have a GPS holder? You could probably use one of those, too.

When I got my new 6+, at Costco, they gave me a suction cup mount car holder. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it would work OK.

I've got a suction cup on the windshield that also includes a sort of glue-y center. Basic suction cup mounts kept failing when it got below about 20 degrees F. I like the 'heads up' feature where it's sort of in the A pillar in front of me, so I don't take my eyes of the road to see the phone (Navigation)...

I have found the CD mount to be the best so far that I have tried, I have broke a couple of the vent mounts the clips on the ones I bought were cheap. CD one I have never had a issue, sturdy and well made.

I haven't tried a windshield mount because live in Phoenix and it would probable melt a windshield mount in the summer and I don't think I would like it blocking any of my view.

The company that makes Pam's holder also makes an air vent holder that looks interesting.

It swivels 360º where mine is portrait only. [www.amazon.com]

I get in the car with my 'Phone in my pocket, and may decide while driving that I want to put it in the mount. It's a quick one-handed motion, not even a task.

Is that the same with your mount, Pam?

Since both sides slide it can be a bit of a challenge to do it one handed. Not impossible though. I am in the habit of putting my phone in the mount every time I get into the car. It's my source of music and also serves as my GPS when needed.

Thanks for the info, Pam.

It would be simple enough for me to wait for a stop sign or light, then.

I think I'll grab one. I really like the swivel/tilt/horizontal feature!

I like the idea of the CD mount the best as it wouldn't impede air flow from the air vent. I'm concerned about the one Pam posted though as it seems like it is a really long arm. Pam, can you confirm just how far off the dash it holds your phone?

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

It's a little more than 3.5" from the faceplate of my stereo to the back where the iPhone sits. I like that it sits out some as it makes it very accessible for skipping a song, pausing, or switching over to GPS and back. No leaning or stretching required. Depending on your stereo it could block access to the tuner button on your stereo and I do have to lean a bit forward and look around around it if I want to see the time on the stereo. Neither are an issue for me as my iPhone handles all of my music and the iPhone does display the time.

Excellent. Thank you for all the recommendations. I sprung for the CD mount that Pam recommended. I will post back after I use it and give some thoughts.

I recently picked up this one from Kenu (snaps on the vent).

I like that it's pretty small and doesn't call attention to itself on the dash when not in use, but it is very low profile, so depending on your car model, the angle and adjustability may or may not work for you. I don't really have any concerns with it blocking the vent as the air will just flow around it, and it's not heavy enough to stress the plastic on the vent itself.

Yes, it sticks to the dash, but it's subtle and works great. I've been using the previous edition nearly every day for 2 years.

Onamuji, that looks pretty cool. I'm hesitant to attach something to my dash though. My car is a 2007 so it isn't new but it still looks reasonably good and I wouldn't want to glue something to it.

I chose the CD mount so air wouldn't be blocked from the vent and also because I simply don't use the CD player. Once I receive it I will write back and let everyone know how it works for me.

It's a slightly "gummy" adhesive that I was able to reposition a couple of times before letting it set in its final resting place.

My biggest concern is that when it comes off there will be a spot that has faded less than the rest of the dash. (From UV light, etc.)

Mine rests to the left of the steering wheel, just below the top of the dash. Great place to rest the phone when I'm using it as a GPS. "Hey Siri" is pretty convenient from there. Can easily go from charging to mapping a new route in a few seconds.

Biggest problem was running a USB/Lightning cable to that spot from my lighter/outlet. 5 minutes with a couple of cable ties and tie-downs to run it invisibly under the dash.
