What are you high on?
Every other car in my area is a Chrysler 300, it seems.

Are you in SF? Aside from the 300, though, what about them? From the talk here, it seems everyone out there is anti-US cars and go for the german brands for uppity prestige..

DaimlerChrysler is a US company now?

The auto market here is no more monolithic than any other part of the country.
There are lots of Jeeps, PT Cruisers, Neons, whatever, just like there are plenty of Ford Focuses or Chevy Impalas or Toyota Camrys or Honda Civics.

SteveJobs is either stoned or deranged...seems doubtful he's ever even been in the bay area.

DaimlerChrysler is a German/US company, or so i thought. am i wrong?

BTW... Chrysler has lousy build quality. stuff is broken on our 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee (and has been for a couple years) that should still be working on a <10 year old car. this is why newer Mercedes don't have the build quality of the ones made before the DaimlerBenz merge with Chrysler.

Apple's going to promote every company that adds iPod integration to their line. Whether that company is falsely deemed to be scarce in certain areas or has foreign ownership probably has little to do with it.

Perhaps if Bob Eaton hadn't been outwitted, Chrysler would still be a U.S. company, likely to be strugging along with GM and Ford.

But then it wouldn't have had the good fortune to be resurrected under the leadership of evil-German Zeitsche, whom many in the company and the dealer body admired, before he was called back to go rescue the parent company.

Nor would it have had Mercedes to help it with the platform that is the basis for the littany of popular models it has now. Instead, there would probably be ho-hum stuff based on a FWD or half-assed RWD design that Chrysler engineers would have to reacquaint themselves after years of K-car and LX fiddling.

Anybody who still thinks national origin still means much of anything in the global automobile industry is living in the past. Competition is fierce, and if you can't play the game, you're gonna lose, no matter who you are or where you come from.
