Suicide Mouse (squeamish warning)

With the cool weather, field mice are looking for someplace warm, and my basement is an inviting place. So I've put down three traps, all of them considerable distance from each other.

This little bugger exited life on this earth in an unusual way. He first caught his hind leg in one of the traps and was unable to free himself. Apparently deciding to put himself out of his misery, he dragged himself over to another trap and stuck his head in it.

Eeww. I gave up on traps a while ago. The cat takes care of the mice situation for me, and I don't usually have to clean up too many half eaten corpses. Once Uncle Louie gets eaten, the rest of the family stays out of site and out of pantry.

I think we've all had days like that!

Really? I usually have to fight my cat for the carrion.

OK.. THAT mouse was just a klutz...

I had one laboriously chew a hole into the top of a gallon jug, and dive in.
Only problem is, it was a gallon jug of Muriatic (hydrochloric) Acid!!!!
Some floating fur, a layer of slime on top, and some bones was all that was left to let me know it WAS a mouse.

Yuck..

What ever possesed the little bugger to think that a container of muriatic acid smelled like something he wanted to chew a hole in, and dive into... I'll never know.

Great picture & mouse tale!

Years ago my beautiful Afro-American princess next door neighbor would put down those sticky traps in her kitchen & always freaked out whenever she found one caught. I'd put 'em in a plastic grocery sack & take 'em down to the dumpster.

Those are the "no kill" live moustraps, right?

Actually, I have never seen a mousetrap like that. Where did you find this "better mousetrap." Is it actually better?

I wonder when our resident rodent lover is going to comment on this. You call them pests while others call them pets.

I am currently looking for an alternative to my method of plunking them on top with bricks. Effective but leaves holes.

Ah, no, they kill the mouse, and quite effectively and cleanly too. They're prebaited and reusable. I don't recall the brand, but I purchased them at Menard's.

Wow, reusable? After the big squish? You wash it?

The little disposable wooden ones with a dab of peanut butter have worked for me in the past.

Usually no need to wash it; the mouse is dispatched without a mess.

Sorry, I was making a joke since it was blatently obvious that the little guy was past dead. Should have used sarcasm tags I guess.
