I'm still plugging away, but it's been harder and harder to keep the FAH client running... Particularly on the older core 2 duo's that comprise most of my folding machines...
Heck, i'm not even sure it's still running on most of them.

I was folding at one point. I'd like to start again but I only have one computer to run it on and it is frequently busy doing other tasks. From what I'm reading it appears the OS X client runs on the CPU while the Windows client runs on the GPU plus the CPU. Perhaps running the client via Wine would produce better results?

Hey, that means I'll head to the top even quicker! Mind you, it'll take me more than 9 months to move up 5 slots.

This is heresy, but I've only ever actually ran FAH on my (crappy slow) windows-based home server...

I did manage to install FAH via Wine but I don't see any way to confirm it is using the GPU.

I was climbing up at one point (donating to pRON), but my current machine doesn't have much of a GPU for it.

I'm still plugging away here... mostly on 1 PC and 1 6 year old Mac... but I'm still at it!

Are there any results? I've seen it on here for years but I don't have a spare computer to use for it.

I no longer have access to as many machines or as high powered machines as I used to. That said, I might get back at it.

Thanks. Now I'm sorry that I just threw out the 1+year old Trader Joe's Satay sauce that I excavated from the back of the fridge. I could have sent it to you to show my appreciation. Sigh.

After swapping hard drives and several restarts for various reasons I recently realized that I have not been folding for a long time. Restarted recently but won't have any work submitted for 14 hours and 48 minutes.

Still folding away using my iMac and Black MacBook as well as my son's Mac Pro. A few folders from MRF fold on other teams.

For GPU folding the client needs direct access to the GPU. So virtualization does not work. A number of years ago a third-party app was created to use Wine for GPU folding on Linux. But it was never updated to work with the current folding client and newer GPU folding cores, and is no longer needed as there are native versions that work on Linux now.

The developers of the folding software would like to enable GPU folding on OS X as well, but the OpenCL implementation in either the video drivers or OS X is not good enough yet. They were in contact with Apple about this last year, but no public announcements have come out since then.

Well, my Core 2 Duo Macbook is still plugging away and there is work for it. But if a dual core machine is configured to use just one CPU core for folding, there is a limited amount of work available these days for all machines, and especially for OS X. It appears most of their effort for low end folding these days is going to either the new Android beta client with Sony or their Folding client for the Google Chrome browser on OS X, Windows or Linux.

Are teams 48057 and 38910 the same or competing teams these days.

When I signed on several years ago, I was on 48057 (and still have that number on my iMac, but above is mentioned 38910. Both show as MacResource.

I would not consider them competing so much as the results of forum history. When almost everyone moved to this forum from DealMac, the team still had that as part of the name. Since some did not want to fold for a team named after the prior forum, there was some debate about what to do. OWC_Larry as forum sponsor started the 48057 team before someone got pRon (AKA pRICE_cUBE) involved as the 38910 team founder and he changed the team name through the F@H site.

So some folded for one or the other, Chris Boyce had systems folding for both for a while. What you see now is those who are left after almost 10 years of forum comings and goings.

I began and simply stayed with Team MacOS X. Still folding away.

JoeH, thanks for the Mac GPU info!

One way to improve points is to fold with a passkey - F@H Passkey FAQ. That makes the work eligible for a bonus the more it is returned before the deadlines. The same passkey can be used on multiple systems.

P.S. I am a moderator on the Folding Forum, if you have questions about setup, etc. send me a PM and I will try to answer.

Reddit is blocked, what is the TLDR on that thread about if F@H has made an impact?
