The Pentax K-3 II is a modest update to its predecessor, but that doesn't mean that its new features are insignificant. While faster autofocus and more shake reduction is great, we're most excited about the Pixel Shift Resolution feature. While we can't share any samples photographs yet, we can give you an overview of what's new with the K-3 II.

Apparently this is the first APS-C DSLR without a flash.

Apparently this is the first APS-C DSLR without a flash.

First Pentax without an onboard flash. Pretty sure Canon and Nikon have had crop-sensor bodies without a flash. Personally, I very seldom use the flash on my K-5 so it would be an OK trade for GPS.

Here are some full-size sample images. The first two were shot with the pixel-shift feature ON. The detail is very, very excellent.

Once again, Pentax provides the most bang for the buck when compared to rivals like the Canon EOS 7D II and Nikon D7200.

the built in flash will often create a shadow when too large a lens is mounted anyway

Well, da--. Apparently you have me to thank for this, because I just treated myself to a K-3. Sunday. I love it, but now I wish I had waited a week.

Canon 7D mk2 has no flash.

The 7D Mark 2 does have a pop up flash. It doubles as a wireless controller for compatible off camera Canon flashes.

Nikon also uses the built in flash for this wireless setup. Though you can buy a wireless command module for either platform.

I have a pop up flash on my D800 and while it isn't ideal lighting, sometimes it is nice to have in emergencies or as the wireless command unit. I have a Nikon SU-800 wireless controller but with the D800 I rarely used the command unit.
