The S110 is a great camera. Might get another as a gift. Thanks.

I've owned the S90, S95, and S110 and used them with a belt pouch as a carryaround camera.

The 95 and 110 are great cameras for their cost and size (the S90 had a fatal control-wheel problem), but both are susceptible to lens errors -- the kind of thing that can be caused by minuscule grains of beach sand getting inside the barrel of the lens and working down into the gears that extend and retract the lens.

For unknown reasons, these cameras show a weakness in this area. The lens will get stuck so it either won't retract or it won't extend. You may or may not be able to continue to shoot pictures with the lens in fixed position -- probably not. I had a long conversation with a repair supervisor during the last problem. The repair is more expensive than a refurbished camera, and my last repair took for-ev-er.

If you have one of these cameras and go to the beach (desert, or other sandy area), keep it sealed in a ziplock bag or a real waterproof case. The offending sand is almost too small to see and the wind blows it around everywhere. It's a killer for these lenses.

Appreciate the heads up on the lens issue. I read about it and have been lucky on my refurb. Although we are planning a beach vacation later this summer so will be cautious or take an older model from the archive. Minus the sand hazard I really like the S110 for sharpness and ease of use for a very reasonable price.

Another option... I don't see it in the refurb store but have seen a couple sales on the SX400 in stores for $129. I have no idea if it's better or worse than other models, just noticed the price.
