damn this sucks , how long was the product cycle on this machine a month?

yup this sucks bad , could be worse i could have spent the extra on the 2gig stick of ram

I hear you d0e, I had just gotten the gen prior to yours 15 days before yours came out.

that make's it hurt a little less , live and learn.

If that stuff is going to bother you, you will have to avoid buying anything so close to a Macworld Expo.

I bought a 20" iMac not too long ago for my wife. No regrets here. I would not be thrilled about purchasing a 1st gen machine.

I feel ya pain. After years and years of self-discipline i finally broke down and bought a nano. My first iPod ever. Thin. Sleek. Beautiful. It was perfect! Then the iPod video came out....

yeah but they just came out with the isight imac's i figured i was safe for a little bit.

The iPod video is in a different market segment from the nano.

Besides, I suspect that an iPod video replacement will be out in the next couple of months.


I also have the iMac generation before last purchased in May. I had intended to sell it before MacWorld but thought that there wouldn't be an iMac announcement.

So, what do you think the 20" no iSight iMac is worth on Ebay?

Well your imac still runs classic. I wouldn't be surprised if it runs non-universal binaries faster than on the new imacs. Notice the 2-3x faster were based on just the raw processor benchmarks, and not on running the same programs through rosetta. I think the G5 iMacs are still very nice machines and will be until the rest of the world goes universal binary. I think the new intels are like the original powermacs, totally awesome machines...in about 6 months provided you upgrade all your software.

I bought the last generation G5 iMac too. No regrets here. Apple got the heat and board issues ironed out with the first G5 iMac. And if history has anything to say, there will be problems with this first intel iMac too. By the time things are running smoothly with intel Macs, I'll be ready for a new one.

Dun no much 'bout them market segments. But what i do know is:
I paid $250 for the 4Gig nano when it first came out.
If the iPod Video was available at the time of purchase, i would've gladly paid an extra $50 for a 30gig iPod Video. It would've been a no-brainer for me. Ohwell.

I guess i could get some Brasso to polish it up all nice and purty.
Then eBay or Craigslist it.

We bought the second generation iMac G5 (non-iSight) on the day the iSight models were released. It was a refurb from the Apple Store for $850 and about $400 off list price. It's great and will continue to be a great machine for my wife's uses for a long time to come.
