Who 'owns' the folding team? Do we have to change teams now?

Ouch, that's a lot of units....

Didn't know there was team ownership... A Macresource Team will be forming shortly - and we'll be setting our fleet of Macs at OWC to contribute to it too. smiling smiley

It will take me several months to get ALL my folding machines switched over... (some of 'em I only see a couple times a year for inventory or maintenance), but I can have the 28 in the computer lab re-assigned pretty quick...

Hate to lose my points accrued thus-far in the project... but what the heck.

Not to take away from Larry's team but there is also a OSX folding team that is ranked pretty high. Someone recently pointed out to me that it doesn't matter who we fold for, as longs as we fold.

What does everyone think?

Should we give a folding team or join another? We are setting one up - it is fun - but at the end, it's the purpose it's being done for that matters more than the team stuff..

But it still is fun. smiling smiley

I agree with Pat. I used to fold for them. They are a high ranked team and our combined numbers would take the team as a whole even higher. I'll probably start converting machines tomorrow.

I won't argue with that, Pat, in fact I have been saying it all along. Team MacOS X (1971) is the top Mac team--not to mention the team is dedicated to Mac folding and nothing else--and it would help Mac recognition if they could break into the top 10.

I suggest that someone change folding team name for 38910 so that it is not tied to a particular website that has come out of favor.

The team manager (whoever has the password) can change the name on this page.
[fah-web.stanford.edu]

I don't know who has the username and password.

I also don't have a good idea for the new name. I suggest that it be named something to reflect our true common interest and not a particular allegiance.

But I'm not opposed to folding for Team MacOS X (1971).

Hey,

As someone who just started folding (albeit with 3 G5s) I'd rather have our own folding team. I like to check rank and see only the people who I sort of know (through lurking) and see how I compare to them, versus looking at the results of lot of people I don't know.

I do like the idea of having a Mac team rank go higher, but if that was the point I would have simply started folding for them at the beginning.

That's just my $.02

I kinda like Tominators idea...

If the "head" of a team can indeed change the name of the team, pehaps that should be investigated?

The founder of the team has that say, of course, and if some participants don't like the idea of changing the name of the team, they have the option to try and sway the founder, or they can leave.

Although first and formost, I like the science being done by the project... I also kinda like the competitive aspect, and would prefer (personally) to start a new team rather than join someone elses existing team.

Given the choice of moving to a team full of "strangers", or starting a team (or renaming the existing 38910), I'd look on a new team or a renamed team with more favor, personally.

I haven't been "folding" but, I do enjoy the thrill of competition . . . especially against a "worthy" opponent . . .

Hooray!
I struggled all the way up to # 41 at TDM, but will gladly switch as soon as the team is formed and I get a team number! I hope some of the big-time folders will switch as well.

I think if the name can be changed there is no sense in losing our place in the field.

When you think about it we have done an amazing job considering the small (relativly speaking) number of folders that we have compared to many of the other top teams.

I for one have really enjoyed watching our little group march up through the ranks!

If OWC were to add their combined computing power to the team it would simply give us that much more horsepower to continue climbing the ranks.

As far as a name goes it could be something like Team MacForum or Team MacTalk or Team MacChat or something equally not catchy but you get the idea.

I vote for changing the name if possible.
Like Paul F, it would take a while to change over all 30 or so of my machines.

I have folded 1542 "moon units", as they were referred to, and 72 units for team MacOs X (1971), prior to 'chip starting the DM team.

We definitely need to bring Christopher Boyce along with us if possible, I can't touch him.
Should be up to #2 in a few months or so, unless Paul adds some more iron to the fight.

A Macresource team sounds good to me. I agree with lemmingboy , I would enjoy seeing the people I sort of know battle their way up. I will switch in a heartbeat.

The important thing ,of course, is the folding not the team name. A new team seems like it would bring in new folders - that can only be good. I can understand why some of you feel inclined to join team MacOSX. I would urge you all to keep/start folding and fold where ever you will have the most fun.

CONGRATULATIONS from Team MacOS X, on founding the newest Mac group in Folding@Home. It's wonderful to see more Mac teams active in the project and recruiting new people to "the Fold". Best wishes for success and for a quick rise into the EOC stats pages. (You guys are so dynamic, I have a feeling it won't take you long!)

For those readers who still haven't decided on a team, sure, come and check us out, we'd love to meet you - but the important thing is continuing to fold, continuing to boost the Mac presence in the project, whatever team you decide to join.

All of you are most welcome to drop by and visit the Team MacOS X forum, and register to post. We welcome folders from all over the project. We're a congenial bunch of people including plenty of "friendly experts" for technical help and a lot of "just for fun" threads to help pass the time. Our software is available to the entire folding community and our "folding flag" recommendations can be found at

[teammacosx.homeunix.com] (yes the whole link is there, just click)

We update the recco's every few weeks or whenever Stanford makes a significant shift in the work unit mix. I hope you find them useful to maximize the production of your folding boxen.

Happy folding to all of you!

With very best wishes,

Jean, aka susato

Good people and good fun in a GREAT cause!
