Powerbook => Mac Book Pro
PowerMac => Mac Mac Pro?

I'm surprised to see the iMac done first from the perspective that if the speed is realizable, why do a non-expandable platform? (though it sounds like from the Photoshop comment that a Rosetta-based app is slower on the Intel dual than on the G5)

Why would Apple role out new PowerMacs when the power apps won't be intel native until March?! THat makes no business sense!

They probably released the consumer (iMac) version first because the “Pro” apps haven’t been ported yet. Just my guess. No point in having a rocking cool Pro machine with no software.

The towers will be "Mac Pro" Towers.

Boring but consistent.

If the iMacs are duo core, will all the towers be quad core or greater?

Quad core. They'll be called Macintosh Quadras.

Or maybe Tetra Core?

I think they brought out the iMac first because it could use the same chip as the laptops, and that chip happened to be ready first.

Probably won't see the towers until intel rolls out their nex-gen desktop dual (or more?) core chip.

I was a little surprised they didn't introduce an intel based mini though....

Towers will probably happen when Intel gets their Conroe chips out the door, around summer. Woodcrest, which is basically the Xeon with many of the architectural and fabrication improvements from Conroe, will be out a bit later than that.

Basically, I think it should be pretty easy to determine when Apple will release new Intel-based Macs across their product lines just by looking at Intel's roadmap and plugging the right CPU into the right Apple product.
