I have been trying to download an instructional video for the last couple of days. It's 2.9 GB in size. Each attempt I made failed after getting to approximately 1.14 GB. I tried it with Safari, Chrome, and Firefox and each time got pretty much the same result. In all cases, the download could not be resumed. (Chrome and Firefox showed the download completed and l had a Zip file that was 1.14 or 1.15 GB that would not unzip. Both Stuffit and the Archive Utility reported errors.) Safari always reported that the network connection failed.
I assumed there was an issue on the server side from where it was being downloaded so I sent them a support request. They gave me an alternative download link. I tried it with Safari and Firefox and it again failed at 1.14 GB. After checking with my ISP to see if there was any issue on my side (which I doubted since I wasn't having any other issues - they found no problems), I decided to download a free download manager (EasyGet Lite) so that I could at least try to resume the download if it failed. The first time I tried to download the file with EasyGet Lite, it downloaded perfectly. Now, I realize it could be a coincidence in that they may have fixed whatever was going on with the server it was being downloaded from just before I tried it with EasyGet Lite but, if that's not the case, is there any reason a download manager would be able to do this when browsers couldn't?
